Interface engineering in mullite fiber/mullite matrix composites
Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2008Mullite fiber/mullite matrix composites are attractive because of their inherent oxidation resistance at high temperatures. Mullite has better creep resistance than alumina. However, chemical interactions between oxides are often very severe; with the result no gain is made over monolithic mullite in terms of toughness.

Thermal Degradation of Fiber Coatings in Mullite‐Fiber‐Reinforced Mullite Composites
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1997The thermal degradation behavior of single‐layer BN and of double‐layer BN/SiC chemically vapor‐deposited fiber coatings in mullite‐fiber‐reinforced mullite composites was investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy after processing and heat treatment of the composites at 1000°, 1200°, and 1300°C for 6 h in air.

Processing of diphasic mullite and mullite-alumina composite precursors
2021Diphasic mullite and mullite-alumina composite precursors were prepared from the silica source (Na2SiO35H20) (a cheap industrial by-product) and the alumina source (AlCl36H2O) by a coprecipitation method (aluminium nitrate and colloidal silica were used to prepared mullite-alumina composite precursor as a comparison), aiming to understand the mullite ...

Kinetic-study of the Kaolinite-mullite Reaction Sequence .2. Mullite Formation
1995The present work is a follow-up of the investigation on the decomposition reaction of kaolinite as a function of the defectivity of the starting material and the temperature of reaction. In the present work we study the high temperature reaction of mullite synthesis from kaolinite, from the starting point of the results obtained in the first part. Time
