Mullite whiskers derived from kaolin

Ceramics International, 2009
Abstract Short mullite whiskers prepared by firing compacts of kaolin and NH 4 Al(SO 4 ) 2 ·12H 2 O powders, with a small addition (0.8, 1.5 wt%) of NaH 2 PO 4 ·2H 2 O, in air 1300 and 1400 °C for 15 h have been characterized in terms of whisker morphology, composition and structure. Relatively uniform whisker shaped crystals grew within the silicate

ChemInform Abstract: Mechanical and Microstructural Characterization of Mullite and Mullite‐SiC‐Whisker and ZrO2‐Toughened‐Mullite‐SiC‐Whisker Composites.

ChemInform, 1988
AbstractHigh purity mullite/SiC‐whisker and mullite/ZrO2/SiC‐whisker composites of high density are prepared by hot‐pressing of alkoxy‐derived matrix materials.

Mechanical and Microstructural Characterization of Mullite and Mullite‐SiC‐Whisker and ZrO 2 ‐Toughened‐Mullite—SiC‐Whisker Composites

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1988
High‐purity mullite‐SiC‐whisker composites and mullite‐ZrO 2 ‐SiC‐whisker composites were fabricated in situ by hot‐pressing using a matrix prepared by the alkoxide process. Varying degrees of ZrO 2 stabilization were achieved by varying amounts of Y

A Catalytic Process for Mullite Whiskers

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1994
Mixtures of alumina and silica react with SiF 4 above 600°C to form fluorotopaz. Pyrolysis of fluorotopaz gives a stoichiometric yield of interlocked whiskers of mullite and SiF 4 , which is recovered for reuse.

Processing of Mullite Whiskers from Kaolin

Advanced Materials Research, 2007
Mullite whiskers have been manufactured by firing compacts of kaolin, Al2(SO4)3 and (NH4)2SO4 powders, with a small addition of Na2SO4, in air at 1400o C for 15 h. From the batch composition of Al2O3/SiO2 = 0.7, molar ratio, alumina-deficient (Al2O3/SiO2 = 1.02, molar ratio), orthorhombic mullite whiskers with an aspect ratio of >30 (0.2-0.4 μm in ...

Mullite Whiskers from Precursor Gel Powders

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1990
A mullite precursor sol was prepared by mixing boehmite and silica sols. On addition of 3.5 wt% F − ion as a 47% solution of HF, the mullite sol was gelled. The dried gel was ball‐milled and calcined at 1400°C for 1 h in an airtight container.

Magnetic Submicron Mullite Coatings with Oriented SiC Whiskers

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2018
Addressing the challenge of making ceramic thin films with the in-plane-oriented nanorods, we propose to decorate the nanorods with magnetic nanoparticles and orient them using the external magnetic field. As an illustration, the mullite thin films with embedded and oriented SiC nanorods were synthesized.

Preparation of mullite whiskers from topaz decomposition

Materials Letters, 2004
An inexpensive, simple method to prepare the pure mullite whiskers from natural topaz has been introduced. XRD and SEM were used to analyse the structure and morphology. A possible growth mechanism for whiskers has been suggested.

Preparation of mullite whisker skeleton porous ceramic

Ceramics International, 2015
Abstract Sillimanite whisker skeleton porous ceramic was firstly prepared by an appropriate firing process from kaolinite and ammonium hexafluoroaluminate (AHA) as raw materials, then mullite whisker and corundum were produced by firing the sillimanite whisker skeleton at 1400 °C.

Mullite whiskers derived from coal fly ash

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2007
Abstract Alumina-deficient (Al2O3/SiO2 = 1.12, molar ratio), orthorhombic mullite whiskers with a diameter of 0.6–1.8 μm (aspect ratio >30) have been manufactured by firing compacts of coal fly ash and NH4Al(SO4)2·12H2O powders, with a small addition of NaH2PO4·2H2O, at 1300 °C for 10 h. The manufacturing process, the morphology, and structure of the
