Programmable Gain Equalizer for Multi-Core Fiber Amplifiers
Optical Fiber Communication Conference: Postdeadline Papers, 2014We demonstrate a programmable gain equalizer for 7-core fiber that can independently equalize spectra or block wavelengths in each core across the C-band. It is spliced directly to a side-pumped multi-core amplifying fiber.

Multi-core Fiber Design and Analysis
37th European Conference and Exposition on Optical Communications, 2011Impacts of random phase offset in coupled-mode theory and autocorrelation function in coupled-power theory on crosstalk of multi-core fibers are investigated for the first time. Simulation results are in good agreement with measurement results.

Standard cladding diameter multi-core fiber technology
Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2021, 2021We show progress of standard 125 μm-cladding multi-core fiber (MCF) technology for cable deployment and its standardization. Its application space and geometrical requirements are described by considering compatibility with existing fiber standards to realize inter-operability.

Recent progress on multi-core fiber
2012 17th Opto-Electronics and Communications Conference, 2012Potential of uncoupled multi-core fiber (MCF) is investigated with viewpoints of space utilization efficiency and the figure of merit (FOM). The impact of longitudinal optical coupling characterization and/or management is discussed using a dual-core fiber.

A Tuneable Multi-Core to Single Mode Fiber Coupler [PDF]
We demonstrate a low loss, wideband multi-core to single-mode fiber coupler using a modified side-polishing technique. The coupler was designed to access light from a single core of the multi-core fiber without disrupting the signal propagation in the remaining cores.

Multi-core fibers and their crosstalk characteristics
2012 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series, 2012Inter-core crosstalk of multi-core fibers is stochastic and heavily dependent on various perturbations such as bend and twist, and of course on fiber structures. Characteristics of the crosstalk are described from theoretical and experimental results.

Homogeneous and heterogeneous multi-core fibers
2012 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series, 2012Reduction of inter-core crosstalk in uncoupled multi-core fibers (MCFs) is the most critical issue for long-haul space division multiplexing transmission. In homogeneous MCFs, the crosstalk is degraded as increasing a bending radius. On the other hand, in heterogeneous MCFs, the crosstalk can be drastically reduced when a bending radius is larger than ...

Shape Sensing Using Multi-core Fiber
Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2015A method of converting multi-core fiber strain and twist measurements into three dimensional shape measurements using Frenet-Serret equations adapted to the treatment of a multi-core optical fiber as a Kirchhoff elastic rod is presented.

Spatial-Spectral-Efficiency-enhanced Multi-Core Fiber
Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2015A spatial-spectral-efficiency (SSE)-enhanced multi-core fiber (MCF) is designed by considering splicing loss, transmission distance, attenuation, and nonlinearity. Proposed MCF achieves highest SSE ever-fabricated single-mode MCFs with transmission distance up to 4,000 km.
