A new method of Multi Dimensional Scaling
2010 Annual Meeting of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society, 2010This paper presents a new algorithm called “Population” that is an efficient and high speed method of performing Multi Dimensional Scaling based only on the calculation of a local fitness. Population is not bound to a specific Cost Function but is possible to define its in relation to the considered objective.

Bregman Divergences and Multi-dimensional Scaling
2009We discuss Bregman divergences and the very close relationship between a class of these divergences and the regular family of exponential distributions before applying them to various topology preserving dimension reducing algorithms. We apply these to multidimensional scaling (MDS) and show the effect of different Bregman divergences. In particular we

Multi-dimensional histogram comparison via scale trees
Proceedings 2001 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.01CH37205), 2002A new way of representing histograms is presented. The representation is based on a hierarchical scale-space decomposition that forms a scale tree. The tree is a mapping of the original histogram and provides a useful starting point for the visualization and analysis of high-dimensional histograms that are commonplace in image retrieval systems.

Developing a multi‐dimensional product evaluation scale
Psychology & Marketing, 2021AbstractThis research develops and validates a scale to assess products on salient characteristics that influence consumers’ decision‐making. The product characteristics (PC) scale assesses products on 12 major dimensions using 34‐items. Next, the paper demonstrates the scale's validity and value in a study of the effects of PC on the consumer ...

Exploring perceptually similar cases with multi-dimensional scaling
SPIE Proceedings, 2014Retrieving a set of known lesions similar to the one being evaluated might be of value for assisting radiologists to distinguish between benign and malignant clustered microcalcifications (MCs) in mammograms. In this work, we investigate how perceptually similar cases with clustered MCs may relate to one another in terms of their underlying ...

A multi-dimensional scaling approach to shape analysis
Biometrika, 2008SUMMARY We propose an alternative to Kendall's shape space for reflection shapes of configurations in Rm with k labelled vertices, where reflection shape consists of all the geometric information that is. invariant under compositions of similarity and reflection transformations. The proposed approach embeds the space of such shapes into the space P(k -

A Bayesian Approach to Hyperbolic Multi-Dimensional Scaling
2022Abstract Recent studies have increasingly demonstrated that hyperbolic geometry confers many advantages for analyzing hierarchical structure in complex systems. However, available embedding methods do not give a precise metric for determining the dimensionality of the data, and do not vary curvature.

MULTI-DIMENSIONAL FRÖHLICH BIPOLARON AND DIMENSIONAL SCALING
International Journal of Modern Physics B, 1990The formation and stability of the Fröhlich bipolaron in a multi-dimensional polar crystal is investigated within the framework of strong coupling Landau-Pekar theory. The ground state energy, the effective mass and the size of the bipolaron are calculated.

A New Feasible Approach to Multi-dimensional Scale Saliency
2009In this paper, we present a multi-dimensional extension of an image feature extractor, the scale saliency algorithm by Kadir and Brady. In order to avoid the curse of dimensionality, our algorithm is based on a recent Shannon’s entropy estimator and on a new divergence metric in the spirit of Friedman’s and Rafsky estimation of Henze-Penrose divergence.

A METHOD OF TREATING INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES IN MULTI‐DIMENSIONAL SCALING*
British Journal of Statistical Psychology, 1964Three studies are reported in which results obtained by analysis using the multi‐dimensional ‘unfolding’ method are compared with those obtained by multi‐dimensional scaling. Attitudes of undergraduates towards crime, political parties and types of accommodation were assessed by presenting the stimuli two at a time and asking subjects to indicate ...
