Efficiency and robustness in Monte Carlo sampling for 3-D geophysical inversions with Obsidian v0.1.2: setting up for success [PDF]
The rigorous quantification of uncertainty in geophysical inversions is a challenging problem. Inversions are often ill-posed and the likelihood surface may be multi-modal; properties of any single mode become inadequate uncertainty measures, and ...

Recent Advances in the Geodesy Data Processing [PDF]
Geodetic functional models, stochastic models, and model parameter estimation theory are fundamental for geodetic data processing. In the past five years, through the unremitting efforts of Chinese scholars in the field of geodetic data processing ...

Multi-parameter inversion with the aid of particle velocity field reconstruction
Multi-parameter inversion for medical ultrasound leads to an improved tissue classification. In general, simultaneous reconstruction of volume density of mass and compressibility would require knowledge of the particle velocity field along with the pressure field. However, in practice the particle velocity field is not measured.

Singularities in K-space and Multi-brane Solutions in Cubic String Field Theory [PDF]
In a previous paper [arXiv:1111.2389], we studied the multi-brane solutions in cubic string field theory by focusing on the topological nature of the "winding number" N which counts the number of branes.

Prediction of multi-parameters in the inverse heat conduction problems
Abstract This paper studies the prediction of the spatial-dependent-heat transfer coefficient γ(x) and- heat flux q(x), using the modified conjugate gradient method (MCGM). The mathematical formulation of the problem well defined and the existence of the minimizer is investigated.

Seismic Multi-Parameter Full-Waveform Inversion Based on Rock Physical Constraints
Seismic multi-parameter full-waveform inversion (FWI) integrating velocity and density parameters can fully use the kinematic and dynamic information of observed data to reconstruct underground models. However, seismic multi-parameter FWI is a highly ill-

Analytic periods via twisted symmetric squares
We study the symmetric square of Picard-Fuchs operators of genus one curves and the thereby induced generalized Clausen identities. This allows the computation of analytic expressions for the periods of all one-parameter K3 manifolds in terms of elliptic

We study the superconducting state of multi-orbital spin-orbit coupled systems in the presence of an orbitally driven inversion asymmetry assuming that the inter-orbital attraction is the dominant pairing channel.

Noisy Gradient Descent Bit-Flip Decoding for LDPC Codes [PDF]
A modified Gradient Descent Bit Flipping (GDBF) algorithm is proposed for decoding Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes on the binary-input additive white Gaussian noise channel.

In geophysical inversions, lower and upper model parameter bounds are a means of solution stabilization. Further, constraints that intend to let only geologically plausible inverse solutions pass are amenable to lower and upper bounds.
