Functionalization of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Materials Science Forum, 2007
In order to alter the physical/chemical characteristics of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) we modified them by different organic reactions (Diels-Alder and Sand-Meyer reaction, oxidation) and their d properties were characterized by thermogravimetry/mass spectrometry, photoelectron spealterectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ...

Silylation of multi-walled carbon nanotubes

Chemical Physics Letters, 2003
Functionalisation of carbon nanotubes is expected to improve their utility in a range of applications. This paper describes a method of silylating multi-walled nanotubes that have first been acid treated in order to introduce polar surface groups. A range of reagents were tested and N-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-N-methyltrifluoroacetamide (MTBSTFA) or 1-(

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes induce T lymphocyte apoptosis

Toxicology Letters, 2006
Carbon nanotubes are a man-made form of carbon that did not exist in our environment until very recently. Due to their unique chemical, physical, optical, and magnetic properties, carbon nanotubes have found many uses in industrial products and in the field of nanotechnology, including in nanomedicine.

Lipase immobilized on magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes

Bioresource Technology, 2012
Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were loaded onto the surfaces of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) by the impregnation method. The obtained magnetic nanotubes were characterized with high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Ag-catalysed cutting of multi-walled carbon nanotubes

Nanotechnology, 2016
In this work, the cutting of carbon nanotubes is investigated using silver nanoparticles deposited on arc discharge multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The composite is subsequently heated in air to fabricate shortened multi-walled nanotubes. Complementary transmission electron microscopy and spectroscopy techniques shed light on the cutting mechanism.

Asymmetric End-Functionalization of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2005
Asymmetric end-functionalization of carbon nanotubes was achieved by sequentially floating a substrate-free aligned carbon nanotube film on two different photoreactive solutions with only one side of the nanotube film being contacted with the photoreactive solution and exposed to UV light each time.

A Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotube Tower Electrochemical Actuator

Nano Letters, 2006
Patterned multiwall carbon nanotube arrays up to four millimeters long were synthesized using chemical vapor deposition. Electrochemical actuation of a nanotube array tower was demonstrated in a 2 M NaCl solution at frequencies up to 10 Hz with 0.15% strain using a 2 V square wave excitation. The synthesis and electrochemical modeling approach outlined

Resistance-Based Biosensor of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Journal of Immunoassay and Immunochemistry, 2014
Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWNTs) are a good choice for resistive biosensors due to their great resistance changes when immunoreactions take place, they are also low-cost, more biocompatible than single-walled carbon nanotubes, and resistive measurement equipment is usually not expensive and readily available.

Preparation and Characterization of Oxidized Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes and Glycine Functionalized Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Fullerenes, Nanotubes and Carbon Nanostructures, 2014
In this work, oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and glycine functionalized MWCNTs were synthesized and characterized using ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) techniques..

Biological effects of agglomerated multi-walled carbon nanotubes

Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, 2016
The physicochemical properties of nanomaterials play crucial roles in determining their biological effects. Agglomeration of nanomaterials in various systems is a common phenomenon, however, how agglomeration affects the biological consequence of nanomaterials has not been well investigated because of its complexity.
