On the performance of multicarrier modulation in a broadcast multipath environment

Proceedings of ICASSP '94. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2002
Multicarrier modulation (MCM) has traditionally been used on severely distorted channels for which there is a reverse path to the transmitter. A potential area of application of multicarrier modulation is for the terrestrial broadcasting of high rate digital television, including high-definition television (HDTV).

Signal processing for multicarrier modulation

Conference Record of Thirty-Second Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers (Cat. No.98CH36284), 2002
Multicarrier modulation is emerging as a preferred line coding method for digital subscriber line (xDSL) systems. An equation error filter structure is proposed to enable factored polynomial modeling of the transfer functions of the transmission path and the echo path. It exploits the multicarrier signal structure and an assumed system configuration to

Multicarrier Delay Diversity Modulation for MIMO Systems

IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2004
Multicarrier delay diversity modulation (MDDM) is a scheme that uses orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) on a "multipath" channel that is generated by using delay diversity. The full diversity criterion for MDDM is proven and illustrative examples of full-diversity codes are obtained based on the established criterion.

Filter Bank Multicarrier Modulation

2018
In this chapter, we discuss Filter Bank Multicarrier Modulation (FBMC), a transmission scheme with superior spectral properties when compared with orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing. We first provide a general motivation, followed by a detailed description of the underlying idea behind FBMC.

Extended lapped transforms for digital multicarrier modulation

GLOBECOM'01. IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference (Cat. No.01CH37270), 2002
In today's multicarrier modulation systems, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) or discrete multitone (DMT), modulation is accomplished digitally by the use of the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT). Instead of the IDFT, any other orthogonal transform can be used.

Symbol Synchronization for Multicarrier Modulation

1998
In this paper we analyze the jitter performance of an approximate Decision Directed (DD) Maximum Likelihood (ML) symbol synchronizer for multichannel modulation schemes employing shift orthogonal shaping pulses with overlapping spectra. The ML timing estimator is seen to use the timing information available from all the orthogonal subchannels.
