Low-latency multicarrier transmission using generalized DMT modulation

First International Symposium on Control, Communications and Signal Processing, 2004., 2004
The use of a cyclic prefix in discrete multitone (DMT)-based transmission systems to prevent intersymbol and interchannel interference (ISI/ICI) becomes a significant design drawback for short-latency systems with short symbol lengths. We propose a new generalized DMT (GDMT) scheme which allows to shift the necessary redundancy for ISI/ICI compensation

Adaptive sub-channel equalization in multicarrier transmission

1997 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2002
In multicarrier data transmission using filter banks, adaptive equalizers can be introduced in the receiver in every sub-channel, to achieve high bit rates. Following conventional data transmission techniques, two approaches can be envisaged, namely the double sampling equalizer (DSE) and the critical sampling equalizer (CSE).

A proportional fair scheduling for multicarrier transmission systems

IEEE 60th Vehicular Technology Conference, 2004. VTC2004-Fall. 2004, 2005
In this paper, we proposed a proportional fair (PF) scheduling algorithm for systems with multiple carriers such as orthogonal frequency division multiple access systems. The scheduler assigns users to carriers to maximize the sum of logarithmic transmission rate, which is compatible with the definition by RE Kelly (Journal Operational Research Soc ...

RFI suppression in multicarrier transmission systems

Proceedings of GLOBECOM'96. 1996 IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2002
Mutual radio frequency interference with amateur radio transceivers may be a very serious problem for VDSL systems that use a frequency band up to about 12 MHz. Discrete multitone (DMT) is a strong candidate for the very high-speed digital subscriber loop (VDSL) standard, but it has previously been thought that it is overly sensitive to RFI (both ...

SAW chirp Fourier transform for multicarrier transmission

1993 Proceedings IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, 1993
The principle of multicarrier transmission (MCT) for line-of-sight radio systems by means of SAW chirp Fourier transforms (CFT) is presented in this paper. A simplified structure for the CFT is recommended in both transmitter and receiver. In this structure the convolving chirp in the CFT should have a quadratic phase versus frequency response.

Optimization and performance evaluation of multicarrier transmission

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1997
Summary: Optimization of the performance of multicarrier transmission over a linear dispersive channel is presented. The optimum data and power assignment to the subcarriers are derived for both the conventional error probability criterion, and a new criterion based on the normalized mean-square error.

Multicarrier transmission schemes in cognitive radio

2012 International Symposium on Signals, Systems, and Electronics (ISSSE), 2012
With the proliferation of radio services in the past decades, most of the spectrum available below 2GHz has been allocated, resulting in the spectrum scarcity problem. However, many studies have revealed that vast portions of the licensed spectra are rarely used.

Multicarrier transmission technique in cellular mobile communications systems

Proceedings of IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC), 2002
The well known orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) multicarrier transmission technique is tailored for a broadband cellular mobile communications system. A performance analysis in multipath fading radio channels is presented and the average bit error rate (BER) is calculated in dependence of the signal-to-noise ratio for bad urban and ...

Image transmission over noisy channels using multicarrier modulation

Signal Processing: Image Communication, 1997
Abstract We have proposed and analyzed a combined source-channel coding scheme using multicarrier modulation. By changing the power and modulation of subchannels carrying different bits of the compressed signal, the channel-induced distortion can be minimized. An algorithm for the subchannel power allocation is derived.

Cross layer analysis of buffered adaptive multicarrier transmission

IEEE 60th Vehicular Technology Conference, 2004. VTC2004-Fall. 2004, 2005
Adaptive transmission can maximize the average information rate on a time-varying channel for a given power constraint and target bit error rate (BER) by adapting certain parameters of the transmitted signal to the temporal variations of the channel. This rate-adaptation idea has been extended to systems in which multi-carrier transmissions are used to
