Spatially resolved Shewanella–acetogen interactions link DIET and MET pathways to acetate formation, offering a generalizable framework for designing structured, high‐efficiency microbial electrosynthesis systems. Abstract Precise manipulation of interspecies electron transfer (IET) is critical for advancing microbial electrosynthesis (MES) toward ...

Assignment of Individual Metal Redox States in a Metalloprotein by Crystallographic Refinement at Multiple X-ray Wavelengths [PDF]
A method is presented to derive anomalous scattering contributions for individual atoms within a protein crystal by collecting several sets of diffraction data at energies spread along an X-ray absorption edge of the element in question.

The genome of Pelobacter carbinolicus reveals surprising metabolic capabilities and physiological features [PDF]
Background The bacterium Pelobacter carbinolicus is able to grow by fermentation, syntrophic hydrogen/formate transfer, or electron transfer to sulfur from short-chain alcohols, hydrogen or formate; it does not oxidize acetate and is not known to ferment

Abstract The Gram‐negative Shewanellaceae family is well known for its ability to transfer catabolically derived electrons to extracellular terminal electron acceptors through electron conduits that permeate the outer membrane. The primary conduit is MtrCAB, a trimeric porin‐cytochrome complex that contains the cell surface exposed decaheme cytochrome ...

Surface Immobilized His-tagged Azurin as a Model Interface for the Investigation of Vectorial Electron Transfer in Biological Systems [PDF]
A model system for the electrochemical investigation of vectorial electron transfer in biological systems was designed, assembled and characterized. Gold electrodes, functionalized with a -OCH3 terminated, aromatic self-assembled monolayer, were used as ...

EPR determination of interaction redox potentials in a multiheme cytochrome: cytochrome c3 from Desulfovibrio desulfuricans Norway [PDF]
In cytochromes c3 which contain four hemes per molecule, the redox properties of each heme may depend upon the redox state of the others. This effect can be described in terms of interaction redox potentials between the hemes and must be taken into account in the characterization of the redox properties of the molecule.

Constructing a man-made c-type cytochrome maquette in vivo:electron transfer, oxygen transport and conversion to a photoactive light harvesting maquette [PDF]
The successful use of man-made proteins to advance synthetic biology requires both the fabrication of functional artificial proteins in a living environment, and the ability of these proteins to interact productively with other proteins and substrates in
