Applications of cascade multilevel inverters

Journal of Zhejiang University-SCIENCE A, 2003
Cascade multilevel inverters have been developed for electric utility applications. A cascade M-level inverter consists of (M-1)/2 H-bridges in which each bridge's dc voltage is supported by its own dc capacitor. The new inverter can: (1) generate almost sinusoidal waveform voltage while only switching one time per fundamental cycle; (2) dispense with ...

A Survey on Cascaded Multilevel Inverters

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2010
Cascaded multilevel inverters synthesize a medium-voltage output based on a series connection of power cells which use standard low-voltage component configurations. This characteristic allows one to achieve high-quality output voltages and input currents and also outstanding availability due to their intrinsic component redundancy.

Multilevel inverter by cascading industrial VSI

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2002
In this paper the modularity concept applied to medium-voltage adjustable speed drives is addressed. First, the single-phase cascaded voltage-source inverter that uses series connection of IGBT H-bridge modules with isolated dc-buses is presented. Next, a novel three-phase cascaded voltage-source inverter that uses three IGBT triphase inverter modules ...

Fault tolerant multilevel inverter

i-manager's Journal on Power Systems Engineering, 2022
The steady rise in energy demand, combined with the loss of conventional resources, spurs research into environmentally benign renewable energy sources like solar and wind. These sources are appropriate for rural, urban, and offshore areas because to their ease of installation, low operating costs, and copious supply (sun light and wind).

Multilevel DC link inverter

Conference Record of the 2004 IEEE Industry Applications Conference, 2004. 39th IAS Annual Meeting., 2004
This paper presents a new class of multilevel inverters based on a multilevel dc link (MLDCL) and a bridge inverter to reduce the number of switches, clamping diodes, or capacitors. An MLDCL can be a diode-clamped phase leg, a flying-capacitor phase leg, or cascaded half-bridge cells with each cell having its own dc source.

ANALYSIS OF A GENERALIZED SYMMETRICAL MULTILEVEL INVERTER

Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers, 2011
The cascade multilevel converter requires the least number of main components among traditional multilevel converter. In this paper, comparison of main components between proposed and traditional converter is shown. In addition, a generalized symmetrical multilevel inverter is proposed.

A Different Multilevel Current-Source Inverter

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2010
DC/AC converters are widely used in several applications; traditionally, they can be classified in two types: the voltage-source inverters (VSIs) and the current-source inverters (CSIs). Their use depends on their application; however, some of them are common for both types of converters.
