On the correctness of multimedia applications

Proceedings of 11th Euromicro Conference on Real-Time Systems. Euromicro RTS'99, 2003
This paper provides a method to verify that the properties we consider critical to build a correct multimedia application are met. These properties are the compatibility of the protocols employed by the computing elements to interact with each other and the timeliness of the application.

Multicasting for multimedia applications

[Proceedings] IEEE INFOCOM '92: The Conference on Computer Communications, 1992
The authors investigate multicast routing for high-bandwidth delay-sensitive applications in a point-to-point network as an optimization problem. They associate an edge cost and an edge delay with each edge in the network. The problem is to construct a tree spanning the destination nodes, such that it has the least cost, and so that the delay on the ...

Multimedia applications

Proceedings of the 2nd international workshop on Computer vision meets databases, 2005
Relational database systems solve many of the traditional problems for processing of structured data. However, unstructured data in the form of images, video, audio and multimedia is growing at a tremendous rate and introduces new requirements that are not met by today's database engines.

Multimedia services and applications

European Transactions on Telecommunications, 1991
AbstractMultimedia communications is the field referring to the representation, storage, retrieval and dissemination of machine‐processable information expressed in multiple media, such as text, voice, graphics, image, audio and video. With the advent of high capacity storage devices powerful and yet economical computer workstations and high‐speed ...

Developing multimedia applications

IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 1991
The history of multimedia is reviewed, and a structured set of recommendations for those wishing to develop their own multimedia applications is provided. These pragmatic, operational recommendations, which are based on three video-disc-based multimedia projects successfully completed inexpensively at the author's institution, are embodied in a ...

Usable Multimedia Applications

Proceedings IEEE International Conference on Multimedia Computing and Systems, 2003
Usable Multimedia Applications is the title of the special session at ICMCS'99 that covers issues related to the development of usable multimedia applications that can facilitate users' comprehension and interaction with the information being presented. Evaluation problems are addressed, with a special focus on usability, which represents a significant

Securing RSVP for multimedia applications

Proceedings of the 2000 ACM workshops on Multimedia, 2000
Distributed multimedia applications require end-to-end quality of service (QoS) in order to be accepted and used. One approach to achieve end-to-end QoS is to provide end-to-end resource reservations. Resource ReSerVation Protocol (RSVP) [5] [1] is a unicast and multicast signalling protocol for setting up network bandwidth reservation.

A construction set for multimedia applications

IEEE Software, 1989
The authors describe an interface system called Athena Muse. Muse is an experiment kit for the construction of multimedia learning environments. Learning environments developed with Muse offer a diverse set of complementary interaction techniques, styles, and devices.

A Testbed for Mobile Multimedia Applications

Multimedia Tools and Applications, 1999
This article describes the architecture, design and implementation of a mobile network emulator able to enhance development of mobile multimedia applications. In particular, it generates test situations which otherwise could be encountered only by moving around the equipment to be tested.

Nonlinear filters for multimedia applications

Proceedings 1999 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. 99CH36348), 2003
A new type of nonlinear image processing filters for multimedia applications is proposed. The filters remove small-amplitude fluctuations while keeping edges sharp. The filter algorithm is simply realized by combination of a usual linear filter and a comparator, which is suitable for hardware implementation.
