An ODA-like Multimedia Document System

Software - Practice and Experience, 1996
A multimedia document is composed of different media objects. ISO's Open Document Architecture (ODA) proposes a standard multimedia document model. However, the current ODA profile only includes static media, e.g. text, geometric graphics and images. Because the future multimedia documents not only include static media but also continuous media, e.g ...

Intention driven multimedia document production

open access: yesProceedings of the 2007 ACM symposium on Document engineering, 2007
We demonstrate a system supporting intention-driven multimedia document series production. We present mechanisms which build specifications of genre-compliant document series and which produce documents conforming to those specifications from existing finely indexed multimedia data sources.

Multimedia thumbnails for documents

Proceedings of the 14th ACM international conference on Multimedia, 2006
As small portable devices are becoming standard personal equipments, there is a great need for the adaptation of information content to small displays. Currently, no good solutions exist for viewing formatted documents, such as pdf documents, on these devices. Adapting content of web pages to small displays is usually achieved by complete redesign of a

Metadata for multimedia documents

ACM SIGMOD Record, 1994
In this article metadata for mulimedia documents are classified in conformity with their nature, and the different kinds of metadata are brought into relation with the different purposes intended. We describe how metadata may be organized in accordance with the ISO standards SGML, which facilitates the handling of structured documents, and DFR, which ...

On-the-fly Multimedia Document Adaptation Architecture

open access: yesProcedia Computer Science, 2012
Currently, multimedia contents can be accessed at anytime and anywhere with a wide variety of devices, such as laptops, smartphones and tablets. In this paper, we present a service-based multimedia adaptation architecture where adaptation services can be

Anonymizing multimedia documents

World Wide Web, 2015
Multimedia documents sharing and outsourcing have become part of the routine activity of many individuals and companies. Such data sharing puts at risk the privacy of individuals, whose identities need to be kept secret, when adversaries get the ability to associate the multimedia document's content to possible trail of information left behind by the ...

Active multimedia documents

Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition. ICDAR '99 (Cat. No.PR00318), 1999
The paper proposes a new technique for modeling document content for functional multimedia retrieval. Document contents and their interrelations are combined in a manner that accentuates the functionality of retrieval and contribute to a new level of document description.

Semantic indexing of multimedia documents

IEEE Multimedia, 2002
We propose two approaches for semantic indexing of audio-visual documents, based on bottom-up and top-down strategies. We base the first approach on a finite-state machine using low-level motion indices extracted from an MPEG compressed bitstream. The second approach innovatively performs semantic indexing through Hidden Markov Models.

Conceptual modeling of multimedia documents

Computer, 1991
An approach to the document-retrieval problem that aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of document-retrieval systems by exploiting the semantic contents of the documents is presented. The document retrieval problem is delineated, and conceptual document modeling basics and requirements are discussed. An experimental system, the Multimedia

Structured multimedia document classification

Proceedings of the 2003 ACM symposium on Document engineering, 2003
We propose a new statistical model for the classification of structured documents and consider its use for multimedia document classification. Its main originality is its ability to simultaneously take into account the structural and the content information present in a structured document, and also to cope with different types of content (text, image,
