Multimedia document engineering in MCF
Proceedings of the 2002 ACM symposium on Document engineering - DocEng '02, 2002This article demonstrates how several of the general-purpose principles which have proved successful in the area of large-scale software development and maintenance are relevant to multimedia design. We present the Media Construction Formalism, MCF, whose high level concepts encompass the principles of abstraction, modularity, encapsulation, and reuse,

Hierarchical traceability of multimedia documents
2011 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence in Cyber Security (CICS), 2011Illegal copying of multimedia files has become a very common practice. Indeed, with the rapid development of means of communication, sharing, copying and illegal downloading have become a very easy handling action, at everybody's reach. The magnitude of this continuously increasing phenomenon may have a significant economic impact since it induces a ...

Abstract This study develops an integrated conceptual representation scheme for multimedia documents that are viewed to comprise an object-oriented database. It develops the necessary abstractions for the conceptual model and extensions to the RM/T relational model used as the search structure. It then develops a retrieval model in which the database

Requirements for multimedia document enrichment
Proceedings of the 15th international conference on World Wide Web, 2006Nowadays a large and growing percentage of information is stored in various multimedia formats. In order for multimedia information to be efficiently utilised by users, it is very important to add suitable metadata. In this paper we will present AKTiveMedia, a tool for enriching multimedia documents with semantic information.

Multimedia titles use technology which offers a good basis for use by print-disabled people. However, lack of appropriate document structures and difficulties in navigating multimedia titles limits the readership. We propose a new approach to design of multimedia documents by separating contents from interaction techniques while using XML standards ...

A Model for Multimedia Documents
1985The problem of a model for representing multimedia documents and supporting operations on documents is addressed. Particular attention is given to the concept of type, since multimedia documents do not fit the static schema definition of database models. A syntax directed approach is proposed for the model.

Multimedia document search on the Web
Computer Networks and ISDN Systems, 1998While pages on the Web contain more and more multimedia information, such as images, videos and audio, today's search engines are mostly based on textual information. There is an emerging need for a new generation of search engines that try to exploit the full multimedia information present on the Web. The approach presented in this paper is based on a

Interactive authoring of multimedia documents
Proceedings 1996 IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages, 2002Authoring multimedia documents involves coordinating various types of media items in time and space. To be effective, authoring requires integration tools that are highly interactive. In addition, the notion of "time" must be made explicit and flexible so that users may define and manipulate the temporal behavior of documents directly and flexibly. The

Multimedia documents with elastic time
Proceedings of the third ACM international conference on Multimedia - MULTIMEDIA '95, 1995Time is an essential component in interactive multimedia documents (or systems). We present the elastic time model for multimedia documents. Using the metaphor of a spring system, it allows authors to associate with each multimedia object a minimum and a maximum length and a length at rest.

Universal interfaces to multimedia documents
Proceedings. Fourth IEEE International Conference on Multimodal Interfaces, 2003Electronic documents theoretically have great advantages for people with print disabilities, although currently this potential is not being realized. This paper reports research to develop multimedia documents with universal interfaces which can be configured to the needs of people with a variety of print disabilities.
