Exotic Nonlinear Effects in Multimode Fibers

2022 International Conference Laser Optics (ICLO), 2022
We experimentally and theoretically studied femtosecond laser pulse propagation with powers slightly below the breakdown threshold. In this regime, nonlinear absorption strongly affects spatio-temporal beam dynamics, and several exotic nonlinear optical effects are observed.

Multiple fiber connectors for multimode fibers

Optics Communications, 1976
Abstract We report on a multiple fiber connector for multimode fibers with a low insertion loss of ⩽ 0.22 dB. The simple, standard photolithographic fabrication process involved can yield reproducibly the tight tolerances that are required for low loss connectors.

Phase-Conjugate Multimode Fiber Gyro

Topical Meeting on Photorefractive Materials, Effects, and Devices, 1987
Modal scrambling is a source of noise and signal fading in fiber-optic gyros1 and therefore the best fiber-optic gyros use single-mode polarization preserving fiber and couplers2. Phase-conjugation can be used to correct for modal scrambling3-5 and to make fiber-optic gyros6-9.

Multimode interference devices with single-mode–multimode–multimode fiber structure

Applied Optics, 2014
We present a single-mode-multimode-multimode (SMm) fiber structure with a few interesting device applications. Unlike the single-mode-multimode-single-mode (SMS) structure, SMm has the unique feature of more than one mode in the output fiber. A detailed physical understanding of the transmission properties, and the differences from the SMS structure ...

Results of experimental studies of multimode fiber Bragg gratings on multimode fibers

Infokommunikacionnye tehnologii, 2016
Nowadays fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are widely used in various devices and applications of fiber optics. They become a basic component for fiber optic sensor networks. The most of those both commercial and prototype fiber optic sensor systems are based on well-researched either singlemode or multimode regime of signal transmission over optical fibers.

Nonlinear Waves in Multimode Fibers

2017
We overview recent advances in the field of nonlinear guided wave propagation in multimode fibers. It is only in recent years that the study of nonlinear optics in multimode fibers has experienced a revival of research interest. Nonlinear arrays of linearly coupled multicore fibers permit spatiotemporal reshaping and coherent combining of ultrashort ...

Multimode optical fiber sensors

1995
Of the properties of light which can be conveniently modulated, phase and polarization information are immediately lost upon entering a multimode optical fiber. This leaves intensity as the only transmittable property available for use as a modulation sensitive parameter.

Multimode Fibers for Compensating Intermodal Dispersion of Graded-Index Multimode Fibers

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2004
This paper proposes a novel type of multimode dispersion compensation fiber (MM-DCF) by which the intermodal dispersion of multimode fibers (MMFs) can be effectively compensated. A theoretical model that precisely calculates the group velocities of a target MMF and its MM-DCF and the power coupling between the two fibers is applied to confirm the ...

Microscopy with multimode fibers

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
Microscopes are usually thought of comprising imaging elements such as objectives and eye-piece lenses. A different type of microscope, used for endoscopy, consists of waveguiding elements such as fiber bundles, where each fiber in the bundle transports the light corresponding to one pixel in the image.

Imaging with Multimode Fibers

Optics and Photonics News, 2016
Holography and phase conjugation were proposed in the middle 1960's for cor- recting the distortions in imaging systems due to aberrating or scattering media. These early methods have been revisited in recent years and successful experimental demonstrations have been reported with digital holographic methods in which the recording and reconstruction of
