Learning to transmit images through optical speckle of a multimode fiber with high fidelity
Applied Physics Letters, 2022Multimode fibers provide a unique opportunity for exploring the spatial degrees of freedom for high throughput light transmission. However, the modal dispersion prevents from the straightforward application of multimode fibers for space division ...

Micro-bending sensing based on single-mode fiber spliced multimode fiber Bragg grating structure
Optics Communications, 2021Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is a commonly used optical fiber sensing structure. FBG bent sensors in multimode fiber have been achieved. However, the structure and manufacturing process are complex.

Two types of multimode fiber couplers made from plastic-clad fibers are described: (1) cross type couplers with coupling efficiencies from 30 dB to 50 dB depending on the crossover angle; and (2) parallel type couplers with low transmission loss and coupling efficiencies from 15 dB to 30 dB depending on the coupling length.

Toward multimode-fiber shape sensing
Optics Letters, 2023We demonstrate machine-learning assisted dynamic tracking of the shape of a multimode fiber whose spatial configuration is manipulated by the movement of three linear stages. The data source used for the analysis is the coherent speckle pattern of light that has made a round trip in the fiber.

Multimode inhomogeneous fiber couplers
Applied Optics, 1979A numerical technique to obtain the wave behavior in tightly coupled multimode fibers with inhomogeneous indices is introduced in this paper. The specific problem of the coupling characteristics of two parallel multimode fibers whose index profile is parabolic is treated in detail. It was found that in spite of the fact that rather complicated coupling
