Imaging using multimode fibers
Optics in the Life Sciences, 2013We demonstrate high resolution fluorescent imaging using multimode fibers in conjunction with Digital Phase Conjugation to undo the randomness of the light propagation within the multimode fibers. High-resolution images of stained biological samples are presented.

We have recently shown [1] that the basic reciprocity requirements [2,3] for sensitive fiber gyros can be met in single mode systems in which the usual polarized light source is replaced by an unpolarized source, and that certain other operational features also result which are of interest.

Bidirectional multimode fiber interconnection
SPIE Proceedings, 2012We summarize the properties of 850nm wavelength AlGaAs/GaAs-based transceiver chips, monolithically integrating vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) or PIN-type (p-doped-intrinsic-n-doped) photodiodes. Different chip designs enable half- and full-duplex bidirectional optical interconnection at multiple

Numerical mode decomposition for multimode fiber: From multi-variable optimization to deep learning
Optical fiber technology (Print), 2019Multimode fibers are gaining a resurgence of interest in both fundamental and applied research in recent years. Thanks to the ability to see the weights and relative phase of the multimode fiber modes, mode decomposition (MD) has shown tremendous ...

Holography and phase conjugation were proposed in the middle 1960's for cor- recting the distortions in imaging systems due to aberrating or scattering media. These early methods have been revisited in recent years and successful experimental demonstrations have been reported with digital holographic methods in which the recording and reconstruction of

Nonlinear Waves in Multimode Fibers
2017We overview recent advances in the field of nonlinear guided wave propagation in multimode fibers. It is only in recent years that the study of nonlinear optics in multimode fibers has experienced a revival of research interest. Nonlinear arrays of linearly coupled multicore fibers permit spatiotemporal reshaping and coherent combining of ultrashort ...

Multimode Fiber-Optic Accelerometers
SPIE Proceedings, 1984A basic system is described, using a mechanically modulated reflected signal and a reference signal generated by photoluminescence for compensation of optical intensity variations. Three sensor designs are presented, two using geometrical effects and one using interferometric modulation of the signal.

Optical Fiber Specklegram Chemical Sensor Based on a Concatenated Multimode Fiber Structure
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2019An optical fiber specklegram chemical sensor based on a concatenated multimode-no-core-multimode structure is reported. The 30 mm-no-core section is immersed in the analyzed liquid so the number of excited modes is modulated by the surrounding refractive

Microscopy with multimode fibers
SPIE Proceedings, 2013Microscopes are usually thought of comprising imaging elements such as objectives and eye-piece lenses. A different type of microscope, used for endoscopy, consists of waveguiding elements such as fiber bundles, where each fiber in the bundle transports the light corresponding to one pixel in the image.

Femtosecond-pulse inscribed FBGs for mode selection in multimode fiber lasers
Optical fiber technology (Print), 2019Reflection properties of a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) inscribed in a multimode fiber strongly depend on the transverse profile of FBG. Point-by-point FBG fabrication by IR femtosecond pulses with highly nonlinear refraction index variation as a function ...
