Quantitative evaluation of LED‐based optical autofocus module
Abstract We report an improved version of the open‐source optical autofocus (OAF) module (openAF) for light microscopy, replacing the superluminescent diode (SLD) with a multimode‐optical fibre‐coupled LED as a more accessible AF module light source. We also present a method for independently quantifying AF system performance using 2D autocorrelation ...

Pinus‐derived membrane vesicles disrupt pathogenic metabolism in fungi
Needle‐derived vesicles from pine trees impair fungal metabolism and growth, offering a sustainable strategy to control pine pitch canker disease. Abstract Much of what we know about the biological impacts of vesicles (MVs) is derived from Arabidopsis thaliana.

Mitochondrial physiology in cardiac muscle of deer mice native to high altitude
Abstract figure legend High‐altitude deer mice exhibited evolved changes in mitochondrial energy metabolism and reactive oxygen species (ROS) management that may support cardiac performance under cold hypoxic conditions. High‐altitude mice had increased activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in the heart, probably enhancing the capacity for lactate ...

Digital Twin of a One‐Sun‐Driven Luminescent‐Concentrator‐Assisted Planar Solar‐Pumped Fiber Laser
An experimentally‐validated digital twin of a one‐sun solar‐pumped fiber laser enables a design exhibit 13‐times higher output power at 1064 nm to be achieved. Despite its simple appearance, the multitude of choices in the design parameters make finding this improved very tedious in the lab, thus the digital twin can save significant time and effort ...

Design of Hetero‐Core Fiber‐Optic SPR Sensor for Reliable Detection of Geothermal Scale Deposition
A hetero‐core fiber‐optic SPR sensor provides rapid and reproducible monitoring of geothermal scale deposition. The mechanically robust design improves fabrication consistency and sensitivity compared with conventional sensors. Distinct peak shifts are observed for silica, carbonate, and sulfate scales, enabling fast, in situ evaluation of scale ...
