Two types of multimode fiber couplers made from plastic-clad fibers are described: (1) cross type couplers with coupling efficiencies from 30 dB to 50 dB depending on the crossover angle; and (2) parallel type couplers with low transmission loss and coupling efficiencies from 15 dB to 30 dB depending on the coupling length.

Toward multimode-fiber shape sensing

We demonstrate machine-learning assisted dynamic tracking of the shape of a multimode fiber whose spatial configuration is manipulated by the movement of three linear stages. The data source used for the analysis is the coherent speckle pattern of light that has made a round trip in the fiber.

Multimode inhomogeneous fiber couplers

A numerical technique to obtain the wave behavior in tightly coupled multimode fibers with inhomogeneous indices is introduced in this paper.
