Bending Direction Detective Fiber Sensor for Dual-Parameter Sensing Based on an Asymmetrical Thin-Core Long-Period Fiber Grating

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2016
An asymmetrical thin-core long-period fiber grating (ATC-LPFG) cascaded with an inline Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) for dual-parameter sensing has been demonstrated. In addition, bending direction is also determined at the same time.

Low-Cost High-Sensitivity Strain and Temperature Sensing Using Graded-Index Multimode Fibers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report a low-loss, low-cost high-sensitivity all-fiber strain and temperature sensor based on mode interference in graded-index multimode fibers. Blueshifts with strain and temperature sensitivities of 18.6 pm/microstrain and 58.5 pm/°C have been ...

Multimode interference couplers

open access: yesIntegrated Photonics Research, 1991
Experimental results are presented on a new type of planar (Multimode Interference) coupler. Two-mode interference (TMI) couplers (Fig. la) were reported already in 1977 as an alternative to weak synchronous couplers,1 they are shorter and less sensitive to variations in the fabrication process, and thus have a potential for application without ...

Femtosecond Soliton Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser With a Symmetrical GIMF–SIMF–GIMF Saturable Absorber

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
A femtosecond soliton erbium-doped fiber ring laser with the symmetrical saturable absorber (SA) of graded index multimode fiber-step index multimode fiber-graded index multimode fiber (GIMF-SIMF-GIMF) is proposed and proved.

Two-Photon Polarization Interference for Pulsed SPDC in a PPKTP Waveguide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We study the spectral properties of Spontaneous Parametric Down Conversion in a periodically poled waveguided structure of KTP crystal pumped by ultra-short pulses. Our theoretical analysis reveals a strongly multimode and asymmetric structure of the two-

Multimode interference filter to solve degradation on coupler common-mode rejection [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
After quantifying degradation of a common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) 3dB-coupler due to excitation of TE01 mode, a novel compact circuit including multimode interference (MMI) coupler+bend+MMI+filter (CBF) is proposed.

Tunable multimode interference coupler

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2007
An electrically tunable multimode interference (MMI) coupler/splitter is demonstrated. The device operates by modifying the phase of the multiple self-images that are formed around the midpoint of the MMI structure. This provides a simple way to fine-tune the 50:50 output power split ratio or other arbitrary ratio.

Design of Power-Splitter With Selectable Splitting-Ratio Using Angled and Cascaded MMI-Coupler [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A concept of power splitter with selectable splitting-ratios is proposed based on two multimode interference (MMI) sections connected by a phase-shifting region, in which phase-matching conditions can be fulfilled by using a simple angled section or ...

Wavelength-Spacing Switchable Dual-Wavelength Single Longitudinal Mode Thulium-Doped Fiber Laser at 1.9 μm

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2016
We propose and demonstrate a spacing switchable dual-wavelength single longitudinal mode thulium-doped fiber laser at 1.9 μm. The fiber laser employs a ring cavity and a segment of 4-m thulium-doped fiber pumped by a 1563 nm laser. A

Two-photon interference of multimode two-photon pairs with an unbalanced interferometer

open access: yes, 2003
Two-photon interference of multimode two-photon pairs produced by an optical parametric oscillator has been observed for the first time with an unbalanced interferometer. The time correlation between the multimode two photons has a multi-peaked structure.
