Multimode polymer optical fiber grating

open access: yes, 2020
The present invention relates to an optical fiber for sensor operation and a sensor implementing the same. Specifically, the present invention relates to a multimode polymer optical fiber with at least one fiber grating. The present invention further relates to a method of producing the grating in the fiber.

Investigation of the bandwidth of multimode optical fibers used with 1550-nm LED and laser sources [PDF]

open access: yes
Multimode optical fibers are not intended to be used with 1550-nm sources; however, it is desirable to utilize 1300/1550-nm wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) on some multimode fibers at Kennedy Space Center (KSC).

Variational approach to multimode nonlinear optical fibers

open access: yesNanophotonics
Abstract We analyze the spatiotemporal solitary waves of a graded-index multimode optical fiber with a parabolic transverse index profile. Using the nonpolynomial Schrödinger equation approach, we derive an effective one-dimensional Lagrangian associated with the Laguerre–Gauss modes with a generic radial mode number p and azimuthal ...

3D Microprinting of Structures with Lanthanide‐Based Fluorophores on Optical Fibers for Multiplexed Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 9, 6 March 2026.
Incorporating lanthanide‐based fluorophores into commercial resists for femtosecond direct laser writing enables a novel platform for multiplexed sensing. Porous, periodic, and solid luminescent microstructures fabricated directly on optical fiber tips are presented.

Experimental study of transmission of ultrasonic wave in optical fibers

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics, 2008
Optical waveguides are commonly used to transmit electromagnetic radiation. The possibility of acoustic wave propagation in optical waveguides creates new prospects for simultaneous transmission of laser beam and ultrasonic wave.

Vat Photopolymerized HEMA/HEA Hydrogels for Solvent‐Responsive Transparency and Optical Encryption

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 10, 13 March 2026.
Vat‐photopolymerized HEMA/HEA hydrogels exhibit reversible transparency‐opacity switching via hydration‐induced microphase separation and solvent exchange. The printed materials enable hydration sensing, optical encryption, and information storage, while maintaining high ductility and reversible rheology.
