NMR Imaging of Multiphase Flow in Porous Media

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1992
Abstract The use of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) imaging techniques for determination of porosity and saturation distributions is investigated. Difficulties in quantitation which arise from the short transverse relaxation times exhibited by fluids in porous media are addressed.

Mortar Upscaling for Multiphase Flow in Porous Media

Computational Geosciences, 2002
A novel multiblock mortar methodology for modeling complex multiphysics phenomena occurring in energy and environmental applications allows for coupling different physical processes and different time discretizations in a single simulation. This is achieved by decomposing the physical domain into a series of subdomains (blocks) and using independently ...

Multiphase-Flow Properties of Fractured Porous Media

Proceedings of SPE Western Regional Meeting, 1999
Abstract The fluid transfer parameters between matrix and fracture are not well known. Consequently, simulation of fractured reservoirs uses, in general, very crude and unproved hypothesis such as zero capillary pressure in the fracture and/or relative permeability functions that are linear with saturation.

A Continuum Approach to Multiphase Flows in Porous Media

Journal of Porous Media, 1999
Using a formal volume averaging method, the author derives equations of motion for multiphase flows, applicable in packet distillation and absorption towers.

Simulation of multiphase flows in porous media

Transport in Porous Media, 1991
The ability to numerically simulate single phase and multiphase flow of fluids in porous media is extremely important in developing an understanding of the complex phenomena governing the flow. The flow is complicated by the presence of heterogeneities in the reservoir and by phenomena such as diffusion, dispersion, and viscous fingering. These effects

Multiphase Flow in Porous Media

1985
We discuss in detail the observable consequences of percolation models of immiscible displacement in porous media, with emphasis on the critical behavior. At the microscopic level these include the fractal nature of the non-wetting fluid configuration in drainage, and the size distribution of the residual non-wetting clusters in imbibition.

Capillary Effects and Multiphase Flow in Porous Media

Journal of Porous Media, 1998
The author briefly reviews recent advances in multiphase flows involving capillarity, and discusses the measurement and interpretation of hydrodynamic coupling in cocurrent two-phase flows. The evolution of saturation profiles is described in terms of viscosity ratio and the ratio of viscous-to-capillary forces. The conditions controlling the oil blobs

Analysis of non‐isothermal multiphase flows in porous media

Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 2022
We consider an initial‐boundary value problem for a degenerate fully nonlinear parabolic system modeling coupled two‐phase flow and heat transport through porous media. The two‐phase fluid system consists of incompressible wetting phase and compressible nonwetting phase, such that the density of the nonwetting phase is a function of the phase pressure ...

Numerical Modeling of Multiphase Flow in Porous Media

Advances in Water Resources, 1985
The simultaneous flow of immiscible fluids in porous media occurs in a wide variety of applications. The equations governing these flows are inherently nonlinear, and the geometries and material properties characterizing many problems in petroleum and groundwater engineering can be quite irregular.
