Multiphase Flow in Porous Media
1991In this chapter, we consider the simultaneous flow of liquids and gases through porous media. We shall assume that cohesive forces in these fluids exceed the adhesion ones, and that the fluids are immiscible and separated from each other by stable abrupt interfaces.

Erosion and multiphase flow in porous media. Application to sand production
European Journal of Environmental and Civil engineering, 2010ABSTRACT Experimental results from sand production hollow cylinders tests are presented for cavity failure and sand production quantification. The effects of important parameters such as the sandstone class, stress rate, fluid flow rate, and time are presented and show how they influence sand production.

Multiscale Gradient Computation for Multiphase Flow in Porous Media
SPE Reservoir Simulation Conference, 2017Abstract A multiscale gradient computation method for multiphase flow in heterogeneous porous media is developed. The method constructs multiscale primal and dual coarse grids, imposed on the given fine-scale computational grid. Local multiscale basis functions are computed on (dual-) coarse blocks, constructing an accurate map ...

Multiphase flow and transport in porous media
Reviews of Geophysics, 1989Multiphase flow and transport of compositionally complex fluids in geologic media is of importance in a number of applied problems which have major social and economic effects. In petroleum reservoir engineering, efficient recovery of energy reserves is the principal goal. Unfortunately, some of these hydrocarbons and other organic chemicals often find

Multiphase flow through porous media
2019The files of this project show the results of a drainage process in an assembly of 40 polydisperse spheres by means of a fully resolved LBM simulation using the multicomponent Shan-Chen model. Liquid morphology, invasion path, pressure field and veloicty field are available in the sequence of vtk files.

Pore-Scale Prototypes of Multiphase Flow in Porous Media
Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics, 1996Understanding the motion of immiscible fluids in porous media is a challenging problem in low-Reynolds-number hydrodynamics that is relevant to many processes of technological and biological interest. Simple representations of the flow on the scale of individual pores or channels have proven useful in exposing effects of various parameters on fluid ...

Multiphase Flow in Deformable Porous Media
2002We consider both cases: multiphase flow in deformable as well as non-deformable (static) porous media. In addition to flow of two fluid phases (compressible and incompressible fluids) we also apply the Richards approximation, which is valid for most cases of infiltration in soils. We assume isothermal conditions.

Flow in porous media — scale up of multiphase flow
Current Opinion in Colloid & Interface Science, 2001This review will highlight recent developments in methods for scale-up of multi-phase flow in porous media. Scale-up is a necessary step when going from multi-million cell geostatistical models to reservoir simulation models. Multi-phase scale-up methods available include steady state methods as well as dynamic methods, along with recent developments ...

Fast Solvers and Preconditioners for Multiphase Flow in Porous Media
2018Multiphase flow is a critical process in a wide range of applications, including carbon sequestration, contaminant remediation, and groundwater management. Typically, this pro- cess is modeled by a nonlinear system of partial differential equations derived by considering the mass conservation of each phase (e.g., oil, water), along with constitutive ...
