On performance figures of multiphase machines
2008 18th International Conference on Electrical Machines, 2008Various performance aspects of multi-phase machines are investigated with the main focus on 6-phase (dual stator) synchronous machines. It is shown that 6-phase machines have benefits over their 3-phase counterparts regardless of machine topology i.e., PM, induction or synchronous. Differences between 6-phase and 3-phase machines are emphasized through

Pulsating torque and losses in multiphase induction machines
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2002In this paper, the authors take a high-level look at multiphase induction machines in order to examine those aspects that are not design specific. They show that for a machine in which the only design variable is the phase number; the main target for loss reduction is the stator copper loss, which by the use of more than three phases may be attenuate ...

Multiphase Load-flow Solution and Initialization of Induction Machines
2018 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2018This paper presents a new method to model induction machines (IMs) in multiphase load-flow calculations. Fast convergence of the load-flow solution is achieved using an iterative Newton method in the modified-augmented-nodal-analysis (MANA) formulation. The multiphase modeling approach allows accounting for unbalanced networks.

Physical variable modeling of multiphase induction machines
2008 Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2008Models of non-standard induction machines with number of phases higher than 3 are not commonly available and require special effort to implement. This paper presents a model of induction machine with arbitrary number of phases on the stator and rotor, which has been implemented in Matlab-Simulink.

Multiphase models of flotation machine behaviour
International Journal of Mineral Processing, 1978Abstract Models in which the cell contents are partitioned into distinct pulp and froth phases are reviewed critically. The nature of the mixing within the phases is discussed. Multiphase models describing froth column concentration gradients and pulp residence time effects are mentioned.

Multiphase machines used in electric vehicles propulsion
Proceedings of the International Conference on ELECTRONICS, COMPUTERS and ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE - ECAI-2013, 2013Multi-phase (more than three-phase) motor drive systems have attracted much attention in recent years due to some inherent advantages which they offer when compared to the three-phase counterpart. Presently the grid power available is only limited to three-phase so the supply to multi-phase motors is invariably given from power electronic converters ...

Modelling of Multiphase Twin Screw Machines
2018Twin screw compressors used in refrigeration, gas and air compression represent approximately 80% of the millions of industrial positive displacement compressors produced globally each year. More than 95% of these are oil injected. Oil injected twin screw compressor is just one type of multiphase screw machines.

Multiphase electrical machines and drives in the transportation electrification
2015 IEEE 1st International Forum on Research and Technologies for Society and Industry Leveraging a better tomorrow (RTSI), 2015Transport industry is facing a paradigm shift towards the most promising and sustainable solution represented by the transportation electrification. This concept has not only been adopted for the propulsion powertrains, but also for the auxiliary systems. Indeed, in the last few decades electrification has come to smart actuators to improve both safety

Behavior of multiphase induction machines with unbalanced stator windings
8th IEEE Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics & Drives, 2011Multiphase drives are receiving an increasing attention by the research community in high power applications. In this paper the behavior of multiphase induction machines with an odd number of phases is investigated under the assumption that the stator winding is unbalanced owing to a fault or an incipient damage.

Derating of Multiphase Induction Machines Due to Supply Imbalance
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2009Open-loop variable-voltage variable-frequency control should offer an effective control strategy in many applications of multiphase machines, but increasing the number of phases can make the machine more sensitive to imbalance in the supply voltage, causing unequal current sharing between phases.
