Prognosis of Long‐Term Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and the Impact of Combined Continuous Intravenous Sodium Infusion Therapy

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

Fitting complex ecological point process models with integrated nested Laplace approximation

open access: yes, 2013
Summary 1. We highlight an emerging statistical method, integrated nested Laplace approximation (INLA), which is ideally suited for fitting complex models to many of the rich spatial data sets that ecologists wish to analyse. 2.

Building 3-D Training Images from Historical Satellite Images for Multiple-Point Statistics modeling of Fluvial Reservoirs

open access: yesGeogaceta
Geostatistical modeling using multiple-point statistics (MPS) methods simulates complex spatial patterns generated through the use of training images (TIs), enhancing the ability to create geologically realistic models.

Multiple-point statistics: tools and methods

open access: yes, 2020
Geostatistical simulation is used in uncertainty quantification and management in many fields of Earth Sciences. Conventional tools account only for two-points statistics and are unable to capture complex features. Multiple-point statistics (MPS) simulations provide improved flexibility to reproduce complex features and can be used for categorical and ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Variance changes detection in multivariate time series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper studies the detection of step changes in the variances and in the correlation structure of the components of a vector of time series. Two procedures are considered.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Advanced wind speed prediction using convective weather variables through machine learning application

open access: yesApplied Computing and Geosciences, 2019
High precision and reliable wind speed forecasting is a challenge for meteorologists. We used multiple nonparametric tree-based machine learning techniques, for predicting the maximum wind speed at 10 m using selected convective weather variables ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
