Multiple sclerosis and birth order

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 1988
The relation between birth order and risk of multiple sclerosis (MS) was studied among MS patients in Israel. The evaluation was both by case-control study and comparison of expected and observed birth order in Israel-born patients. Results showed an excess of first-born and a low birth order among MS patients.

High-Order Multiple Gestations

Seminars in Perinatology, 2005
Infertility treatments have produced an increase in multiple gestations with twins accounting for 3.3% of births in the United States in 2002. Over that same time period, premature deliveries increased from 10.7% in 1992 to 12.1% in 2002. High-order multiple gestations have also increased, and virtually all of those deliver prematurely.

Birth order and multiple sclerosis

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 1982
No significant difference in birth order and risk of multiple sclerosis (MS) was found in a large-scale investigation employing 2 different study methods: case-control and comparison of birth order with expected distribution. This finding is at variance with conflicting results of 2 recently published investigations.

Multiple ordering and first order transitions: magnetite

Solid State Communications, 1971
Abstract Using a symmetry argument, it is shown that a three ‘order parameter’ theory, previously introduced to describe the metal-insulator transition in magnetite also explains the first-order nature of this transition.

Multiple Ordering in Magnetite

Physical Review B, 1973
Results of a self-consistent band calculation of the ground-state energy and charge orderings based on a tight-binding scheme in magnetite are presented. They show that below a critical (about 2.2) value of the ratio of interatomic Coulomb energy to bandwidth the lowest energy state has no order. Between this critical value and 2.5, the preferred state

Multiple-order diffractive engineered surface lenses

Applied Optics, 2020
A multiple-order diffractive engineered surface (MODE) lens is introduced, in which focal position change with wavelength exhibits both refractive and diffractive characteristics. Engineering calculations are provided that indicate Strehl ratio and encircled energy performance over a large range of focal length and aperture diameter design space.

Multiple-order radial-grating shearing interferometer

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1981
A shearing interferometer suitable for coherent phasing of multiple-aperture optical systems is described. The interferometer uses the properties of a rotating radial square wave grating to simplify interaperture phase measurements. A theoretical development and the results of experiments conducted at a wavelength of 10.6 microm are presented.

Multiple-path telescope: third-order design

Applied Optics, 1997
Exact results for the magnification and effective focal length of a multiple-path telescope are presented. We present analytical results for the third-order design of this system, using the Seidel sums for the five aberration terms. Numerical calculations are used throughout to corroborate these results. Third-order aberrations remain small or at least

Multiple Order Graph Matching

2011
This paper addresses the problem of finding correspondences between two sets of features by using multiple order constraints all together. First, we build a high-order supersymmetric tensor, called multiple order tensor, to incorporate the constraints of different orders (e.g., unary, pairwise, third order, etc.).
