The Multiscale Finite Volume Method on Unstructured Grids

SPE Reservoir Simulation Symposium, 2013
Abstract Finding a pressure solution for large-scale reservoirs that takes into account fine-scale heterogeneities can be very computationally intensive. One way of reducing the workload is to employ multiscale methods that capture local geological variations using a set of reusable basis functions.

The Multiscale Finite-Volume Method on Stratigraphic Grids

SPE Journal, 2014
Summary Finding a pressure solution for large and highly detailed reservoir models with fine-scale heterogeneities modeled on a meter scale is computationally demanding. One way of making such simulations less compute-intensive is to use multiscale methods that solve coarsened flow problems by use of a set of reusable basis functions to ...

A Hybrid Multiscale Finite Cloud Method and Finite Volume Method in Solving High Gradient Problem

International Journal of Computational Methods, 2022
Meshfree methods are always the alternatives to be considered besides the finite element method in dealing with complex engineering problems. Among these complex problems, there are problems where discontinuities or high gradients may only emerge at a small region of a domain and the remaining parts of the domain are smooth and continuous.

A Multiscale Finite Volume Method with Oversampling for Geophysical Electromagnetic Simulations

Proceedings, 2016
on, we develop a Multiscale finite volume (MSFV) method with oversampling for the quasistatic Maxwell’s equations in the frequency domain. Our method begins by assuming a coarse mesh nested into a fine mesh, which accurately discretizes the setting. For each coarse cell, we solve independently a local version of the original Maxwell’s system subject ...

Comparison Between Multiscale Finite Volume Methods in Reservoir Engineering

Proceedings, 2017
Upscaling and Multiscale Methods in reservoir engineering remain a complicated task especially when dealing with heterogeneities. In this study, we focus on flow field problem whit a Darcy like equation that we will consider as reference solution on the fine grid scale. The main difficulty is then to obtain an accurate description of the flow behavior

Multiscale Finite Volume Method for Discrete Fracture Modeling with Unstructured Grids

SPE Reservoir Simulation Conference, 2017
Abstract A multiscale method for Discrete Fracture Modeling (DFM) using unstructured grids is developed. The fine-scale discrete system is obtained by imposing tetrahedron (triangular for 2D domains) shaped grid cells, while lower-dimensional fractures are imposed at the grid interfaces.
