Numerical multiscale methods for coupled oscillators

open access: yes, 2009
A multiscale method for computing the effective slow behavior of a system of weakly coupled nonlinear planar oscillators is presented. The oscillators may be either in the form of a periodic solution or a stable limit cycle.

Discrepancies Between Micro Versus Macroscale Viscoelastic Properties in a Microplastic‐Tissue Composite Model

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the discrepancies between bulk mechanics and spatial mapping in a tissue‐mimetic hydrogel model. Microplastic particles create localized stiff mechanical microenvironments that are detectable by cellular‐scale nanoindentation but leave bulk properties unchanged as measured by rheology.

Membrane Characterization by Microscopic and Scattering Methods: Multiscale Structure

open access: yesMembranes, 2011
Several microscopic and scattering techniques at different observation scales (from atomic to macroscopic) were used to characterize both surface and bulk properties of four new flat-sheet polyethersulfone (PES) membranes (10, 30, 100 and 300 kDa) and ...

Graph-based data clustering via multiscale community detection

open access: yesApplied Network Science, 2020
We present a graph-theoretical approach to data clustering, which combines the creation of a graph from the data with Markov Stability, a multiscale community detection framework. We show how the multiscale capabilities of the method allow the estimation

Entropy‐Driven Design of Low‐Melting‐Point Alloys via Compositionally Complex Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Conventional low‐melting‐point alloys (LMPAs) are limited by a narrow compositional space and inherent property trade‐offs. This review presents an entropy‐driven design strategy that overcomes these limitations, ushering in a new class of low‐melting‐point compositionally complex alloys (LMCCAs).

Finite element heterogeneous multiscale methods with near optimal computational complexity

open access: yes, 2007
This paper is concerned with a numerical method for multiscale elliptic problems. Using the framework of the heterogeneous multiscale methods (HMM), we propose a micro-macro approach which combines the finite element method (FEM) for the macroscopic ...

High‐Entropy Alloy Interlayers Toward Advanced Joining for High‐Performance Structural Applications: Current Progress and Emerging Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
HEA interlayers offer a versatile route for joining high‐performance structural materials. Their compositional and structural design regulates interfacial reactions, suppresses brittle IMCs, and improves metallurgical bonding. Sandwich interlayers further integrate defect healing with precipitation strengthening, enabling improved strength–ductility ...

A three-field Multiscale Method

open access: yesCoRR
\emph{A Three-Field Domain Decomposition Method} is the title of a seminal paper by F. Brezzi and L. D. Marini which introduces a three-field formulation for elliptic partial differential equations. Based on that, we propose the Multiscale-Hybrid-Hybrid Method (MH$^2$M) for the Darcy model, a multiscale finite element method that yields, after a series

Electrocapillary Modulated Interfacial Tension Amplifies Liquid Metal Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presented an electrocapillary‐enhanced magnetohydrodynamic pumping strategy that harnesses the Lorentz force and interfacial tension modulation of liquid metal droplets to achieve amplified fluidic power. The system enabled low‐voltage, self‐oscillating fluidic transduction with enhanced pressure and flow generation, supporting compact ...
