High dimensional finite elements for multiscale wave equations

open access: yes, 2014
For locally periodic multiscale wave equations in $\mathbb{R}^d$ that depend on a macroscopic scale and n microscopic separated scales, we solve the high dimensional limiting multiscale homogenized problem that is posed in $(n+1)d$ dimensions and is ...

Role of the Recombination Zone in Organic Light‐Emitting Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the critical role of the recombination zone in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). We highlight that broadening the recombination zone in OLEDs based on emissive layers with balanced charge transport and high photoluminescence quantum yields provides a promising route toward achieving both long operational lifetime and high ...

Modeling the Interplay Between Reaction Progress, Deformation and Stress Field Evolution During Antigorite Dehydration: Implications for Intermediate‐Depth Seismicity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Dehydration reactions in subducted slabs have long been correlated with embrittlement and intermediate‐depth earthquakes. However, the physical process of dehydration embrittlement remains unclear due to the complex and poorly constrained interactions ...

Heterogeneous multiscale methods for interface tracking of combustion fronts

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper we investigate the heterogeneous multiscale methods (HMM) for interface tracking and apply the technique to the simulation of combustion fronts.

Azobenzene's Cross‐Scale Optics and Photonics: Molecular Photoswitching, Mesoscopic Material Motions, and Adaptive Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Azobenzene photoswitches translate molecular‐scale E/Z photoisomerization into macroscopic material responses and device‐level photonic functions. This Review highlights how azobenzene research has evolved from molecular photochemistry to photoalignment, mass migration, photomechanics, and heat release, ultimately enabling holography, reconfigurable ...

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Laser‐Assisted Phase Engineering of 2D MoS2 for Efficient Solution‐Processed Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Here, local laser‐assisted phase transition from solution‐processed phase‐pure 1T′ to 2H MoS2 is shown to critically depend on the irradiation atmosphere. While processing in air leads to damaged insulating regions, inert conditions yield semiconducting 2H domains, enabling direct field‐effect transistor patterning with optimized lateral 1T′‐2H MoS2 ...
