Dynamic pressure variations in the lower crust caused by localized fluid-induced weakening
Localized very high pressure mineral assemblages can be explained by local pressure gradients up to an order of magnitude greater than lithostatic pressure, according to a numerical visco-elasto-plastic model of fluid-induced mechanical ...

Deep multiscale model learning [PDF]
The objective of this paper is to design novel multi-layer neural network architectures for multiscale simulations of flows taking into account the observed data and physical modeling concepts. Our approaches use deep learning concepts combined with local multiscale model reduction methodologies to predict flow dynamics.

Numerical modelling of diffusion-limited mineral growth for geospeedometry applications [PDF]
Diffusion and crystal growth are common processes in nature and can be observed in rocks that have experienced relatively high temperatures. Information about these processes is stored in the composition gradients of minerals.

Arylic C–X Bond Activation by Palladium Catalysts: Activation Strain Analyses of Reactivity Trends
We have quantum chemically explored arylic carbon–substituent bond activation via oxidative insertion of a palladium catalyst in C6H5X + PdLn model systems (X = H, Cl, CH3; Ln = no ligand, PH3, (PH3)2, PH2C2H4PH2) using relativistic density functional ...

Multiscale modeling of respiration [PDF]
A multiscale mathematical model was developed to distinguish responses of external and cellular respiration to exercise of moderate intensity. The simulation shows that the characteristic MRTs of external and cellular respiration are similar even when a transit delay exists between the tissue cells and the lungs.

Novel multiscale modeling tool applied to Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm formation. [PDF]
Multiscale modeling is used to represent biological systems with increasing frequency and success. Multiscale models are often hybrids of different modeling frameworks and programming languages. We present the MATLAB-NetLogo extension (MatNet) as a novel
