Nonequilibrium multiscale computational model

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2007
A computational multiscale method is proposed to simulate coupled, nonequilibrium thermomechanical processes. This multiscale framework couples together thermomechanical equations at the coarse scale with nonequilibrium molecular dynamics at the fine scale. The novel concept of distributed coarse scale thermostats enables subsets of fine scale atoms to

Multiscale models of thrombogenesis

WIREs Systems Biology and Medicine, 2012
AbstractTo restrict the loss of blood follow from the rupture of blood vessels, the human body rapidly forms a clot consisting of platelets and fibrin. However, to prevent pathological clotting within vessels as a result of vessel damage, the response must be regulated.

Multiscale modelling of geomaterials

2004
It is now well established that the micro-structure of granular materials plays a significant role in its overall constitutive behaviour. In the past few years, a great deal of theoretical and experimental researchs has been devoted to this domain, giving rise to constructive micro-mechanical approaches.

Multiscale Modeling of Insulin Secretion

IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 2011
Insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells is a fundamental physiological process, and its impairment plays a pivotal role in the development of diabetes. Mathematical modeling of insulin secretion has a long history, both on the level of the entire body and on the cellular and subcellular scale.

Multiscale Modeling of Proteins

Accounts of Chemical Research, 2009
The activity within a living cell is based on a complex network of interactions among biomolecules, exchanging information and energy through biochemical processes. These events occur on different scales, from the nano- to the macroscale, spanning about 10 orders of magnitude in the space domain and 15 orders of magnitude in the time domain ...

A KINETIC MULTISCALE MODEL

Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2002
We derive a system of kinetic equations which realize the Broadwell model on a variety of scales. For a 16-velocity model we verify constraints giving rise to "realistic" Euler equations. Applications to rarefied flow dynamics are developed.
