A New Method for the Aerodynamic Design of Multistage Axial-Flow Compressors

Journal of the Aeronautical Sciences, 1948
This paper describes the derivation of an optimum inlet Mach Number for the first stagesof an axial-flow compressor based on free vortex design. The optimum Mach Number is related to the given inlet conditions, dimensions, and tip speed and specifies the maximum amount of work tha t can be done on the fluid and the corresponding free vortex velocity ...

Influence of rain droplets on the stage characteristics of an axial multistage compressor

51st AIAA/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference, 2015
Aircraft engines are required to operate under different environmental conditions while keeping safety and reliability as its paramount priority. During flight operation, liquid water may enter the engine and can adversely affect the engine performance and operability. In order to research deeply into how wet compression affects aero-engine performance

Multistage Axial Compressor Program on Tip Clearance Effects.

1981
Abstract : Tip clearance has long been known to be a source of losses in axial compressors with cantilevered blades. The reasons for the losses, however, are not well understood and current practice in engine design still requires extensive effort to maintain constant minimal operating clearances over a wide range of conditions.

Experimental Study of Casing Boundary Layers in a Multistage Axial Compressor

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1991
Measurements of the casing boundary layers were obtained in a four-stage, low speed axial flow compressor, to verify the ‘law of the wall’ applicability to these complex flows. Some of the available shear stress models of the two-dimensional flows have been examined towards the quantitative assessment of skin friction.
