Reliability of a class of multistage interconnection networks

IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, 1992
The reliability of extra-stage interconnection networks is discussed. Three types of reliability are analyzed: terminal reliability, which is the probability that at least one fault-free path exists between a given input-output pair: network reliability, which is the probability that at least one fault-free path exists between every input-output pair ...

Assessing reliability of multistage interconnection networks

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1993
Efficient methods for determining the lower and upper bounds on the probabilities of source-to-terminal communication in a multistage interconnection network are developed. A novel lower bounding strategy (shifting) and a novel upper bounding strategy (renormalization) are presented; both can be computed in polynomial time.

On the bandwidth availability of multistage interconnection networks

1993 Euromicro Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Processing, 2002
In this paper, we develop a model that describes the behaviour of a multistage interconnection network (MIN) interconnecting processors and memory modules, when faults exist among the functional units (the processors, memory modules, switching elements and links).

Reliable multistage interconnection network design

Peer-to-Peer Networking and Applications, 2015
High-performance supercomputers generally comprise millions of CPUs in which interconnection networks play an important role to achieve high performance. New design paradigms of dynamic on-chip interconnection network involve a) topology b) synthesis, modeling and evaluation c) quality of service, fault tolerance and reliability d) routing procedures ...

Conflict analysis of multistage interconnection networks

Proceedings of International Workshop on Modeling, Analysis and Simulation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems, 2002
In most applications, some permutations are used more frequently than others. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the efficiency with which various MINs realize the set of frequently used permutations. It is known that the problem of determining the exact number of passes to realize a permutation is NP-complete. We present an efficient algorithm to

Comprehensive testing of multistage interconnection networks

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1991
The authors present efficient methods for testing packet-switched multistage interconnection networks. In addition to testing the data paths and routing capabilities, tests for detecting faults in the control circuitry including the conflict resolution capabilities are provided. Using a general model of the switch, testing sequences are constructed for

Multistage Interconnection Networks with Multiple Outlets

1994 International Conference on Parallel Processing-Vol 1 (ICPP'94), 1994
Multistage Interconnection Networks(MINs) with multiple outlets are networks which can support higher bandwidth than that of nonblocking networks by passing multiple packets to the same destination. A novel MIN topology with multiple outlets called Piled Banyan Switching Fabrics (PBSF) is proposed for the Simple Serial Synchronized (SSS)-MIN used in ...

Reliability Analysis of Multistage Interconnection Networks

Quality and Reliability Engineering International, 2015
Multistage interconnection networks (MINs) are widely used for reliable data communication in tightly coupled large‐scale multiprocessor systems. Reliability evaluation of interconnection networks is still a challenge owing to high complexity. Need of reliability evaluation for MINs is quite evident as these measures provide user‐oriented performance ...

Design and simulation of a multistage interconnection network

1990
An interconnection network for a high-performance parallel computer for database, Lisp and Prolog applications is currently being developed. To meet the requirements derived from applications a multistage interconnection network is chosen. The selection of the switching elements and their optimization was done by simulation with randomly distributed ...
