Methodology for the Assessment of Imprecise Multi-State System Availability

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
Most existing studies of a system’s availability in the presence of epistemic uncertainties assume that the system is binary. In this paper, a new methodology for the estimation of the availability of multi-state systems is developed, taking into ...

Boundary-field-driven control of discontinuous phase transitions on hyperbolic lattices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The multistate Potts models on two-dimensional hyperbolic lattices are studied with respect to various boundary effects. The free energy is numerically calculated by Corner Transfer Matrix Renormalization Group method. We analyze phase transitions of the

Atomic dynamics in evaporative cooling of trapped alkali atoms in strong magnetic fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We investigate how the nonlinearity of the Zeeman shift for strong magnetic fields affects the dynamics of rf field induced evaporative cooling in magnetic traps. We demonstrate for the 87-Rb and 23-Na F=2 trapping states with wave packet simulations how

Chemistry and Photochemistry of Anthocyanins and Related Compounds: A Thermodynamic and Kinetic Approach

open access: yesMolecules, 2016
Anthocyanins are identified by the respective flavylium cation, which is only one species of a multistate of different molecules reversibly interconverted by external inputs such as pH, light and temperature.

Do cladistic and morphometric data capture common patterns of morphological disparity? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The distinctly non-random diversity of organismal form manifests itself in discrete clusters of taxa that share a common body plan. As a result, analyses of disparity require a scalable comparative framework.

Unlimited multistability in multisite phosphorylation systems [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2009
Reversible phosphorylation on serine, threonine and tyrosine is the most widely studied posttranslational modification of proteins. The number of phosphorylated sites on a protein (n) shows a significant increase from prokaryotes, with n /= 150 sites.

Steric Hindrance and Secondary Interactions Govern Reconfiguration Between Two Complex CuI Coordination Cages

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Fine‐tuning steric and C─H···π contacts directs assembly of two CuI cages. An identical naphthylene‐based subcomponent forms a [CuI12L6]12+ pseudo‐hexagonal prism stabilized by 29–32 C─H···π contacts and 12 arene stacking pairs with 6‐methyl‐2‐formylpyridine, whereas the 3‐methyl analog imparts steric clashes, yielding a [CuI8L4]8+ open prism ...

State Taxation of Unitary Businesses [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
The income taxation of multistate businesses has created problems for tax administrators, primarily with regard to the question of how to divide the income taxation amongst the multiple states.

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Sequence‐Encoded Frustration Directs the Formation of Abridged G‐Quadruplex Architectures

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Programmable frustration reshapes the free‐energy surface (FES) of guanine‐quadruplex (G4) folding, stabilizing an abridged G4 and a G‐triplex intermediate. ABSTRACT Frustration—competing interactions that cannot be simultaneously optimized—shapes energy landscapes in proteins and soft matter, but has rarely been exploited as a programmable design ...
