Finite Element Analysis of Reinforced Self Consolidation Concrete Beams Having a Horizontal Construction Joint

open access: yesمجلة النهرين للعلوم الهندسية
Construction joints are separations between successive concrete pours. They are critical in the building of large concrete structures, since these structures cannot be cast in a single pour.

Place Branding in Finland: A Discourse Analysis of Municipal Slogans [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Business, Communication and Technology
The purpose of this multidisciplinary study is to investigate how municipalities position themselves in their slogans as unique places among competitors, namely other municipalities in their region or country.

Municipal sizes and municipal restructuring in Japan [PDF]

open access: yesLetters in Spatial and Resource Sciences, 2014
In this article, we quantitatively analyze changes in the size distribution of municipal jurisdictions in Japan by using their rank-size distribution to capture the changes. In Japan, the central government sometimes enacts large-scale municipal mergers, aimed at creating municipalities of a certain size.

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

The Influence of Construction Joints on the Shear Behavior of Reinforced Self-Compacting Concrete Beams

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences
Construction joints are essential in massive concrete structures since these structures cannot be cast in a single pour. Nowadays, Self-compacting concrete is preferred due to its ability to compact without vibration and segregation concerns.

Laser‐Assisted Phase Engineering of 2D MoS2 for Efficient Solution‐Processed Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Here, local laser‐assisted phase transition from solution‐processed phase‐pure 1T′ to 2H MoS2 is shown to critically depend on the irradiation atmosphere. While processing in air leads to damaged insulating regions, inert conditions yield semiconducting 2H domains, enabling direct field‐effect transistor patterning with optimized lateral 1T′‐2H MoS2 ...

Finite Element Analysis of Voided Reinforced Concrete Slabs Enhanced by GFRP Sheets under Monotonic and Repeated Loads

open access: yesJournal of Engineering
Six (1000*1000 mm2) slab specimens were cast and tested as two-way simply supported slabs previously (three under monotonic loading and three under repeated loading) are used in this research.

Mechanism‐Driven Nanoformulations for Cognitive Impairment Induced by Intermittent Hypoxia and Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Clinically, intermittent hypoxia (IH) is often accompanied by periodontitis, which accelerates cognitive impairment induced by IH. Novel Janus mesoporous gold‐silica nanoformulations (RVG‐Au&mSiO2‐TPP‐VB) enable intranasal delivery, achieve hierarchical targeting to neuronal mitochondria, effectively scavenge reactive oxygen species, inhibit the HIF‐1α/

Mathematical and experimental study of the direct contact membrane distillation method for desalination using a hydrophobic electrospun nanofibers membrane

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering
This paper examines the performance of a Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD) system experimentally and theoretically. The system uses a super hydrophobic electrospun nanofiber membrane to desalinate water. Investigations were carried out into
