Municipal sizes and municipal restructuring in Japan [PDF]

open access: yesLetters in Spatial and Resource Sciences, 2014
In this article, we quantitatively analyze changes in the size distribution of municipal jurisdictions in Japan by using their rank-size distribution to capture the changes. In Japan, the central government sometimes enacts large-scale municipal mergers, aimed at creating municipalities of a certain size.

Universal Conductance Fluctuations in Quantum Anomalous Hall Insulators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Universal conductance fluctuations are observed in mesoscopic quantum anomalous Hall insulators. Two distinct fluctuation patterns are identified, arising from different interference processes of bulk and chiral edge states, respectively. These findings unveil rich quantum interference phenomena in quantum anomalous Hall insulators and provide insights

The Influence of Construction Joints on the Shear Behavior of Reinforced Self-Compacting Concrete Beams

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences
Construction joints are essential in massive concrete structures since these structures cannot be cast in a single pour. Nowadays, Self-compacting concrete is preferred due to its ability to compact without vibration and segregation concerns.

Too Many Municipalities? [PDF]

open access: yes
Does democracy lead to the creation of too many municipalities? We analyze this issue within the context of the Alesina and Spolare (1996) model where the quality of municipal services deteriorates with the distance from the center of a municipality ...

Enhancing Performance of Self–Compacting Concrete with Internal Curing Using Thermostone Chips

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2017
This paper is devoted to investigate the effect of internal curing technique on the properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC). In this study, SCC is produced by using silica fume (SF) as partial replacement by weight of cement with percentage of (5%),

Finite Element Analysis of Voided Reinforced Concrete Slabs Enhanced by GFRP Sheets under Monotonic and Repeated Loads

open access: yesJournal of Engineering
Six (1000*1000 mm2) slab specimens were cast and tested as two-way simply supported slabs previously (three under monotonic loading and three under repeated loading) are used in this research.

Positively Charged Polymer‐Brush MOFs for Large‐Area, Pressure‐Resistant Gas Separation Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A universal POPA strategy enables positively charged polymer‐brush MOFs with self‐adaptive interfacial interlocking to resist aggregation under fast processing. This design ensures seamless dispersion within large‐area selective layers, achieving 1 m‐wide roll‐to‐roll fabrication of pressure‐resistant MMCMs with tunable CO2 separation performance ...
