Prediction of Germination in Aged Seeds and Identification of New Seed Viability Biomarkers Using NMR Metabolomics

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 177, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
ABSTRACT The fast evaluation of seed performance is crucial for the agricultural industry. In this work, we apply NMR to identify specific metabolites that are related to the germination capacity of seeds. As our results show, NMR is a fast method with great potential to discover new accumulated metabolites during seed ageing and to predict the ...

Glandless, a tomato HD‐ZIP transcription factor, is important for the gland formation of type VI trichomes

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 123, Issue 1, July 2025.
Significance Statement We studied a tomato EMS‐mutant plant, glandless, that has glandless type VI glandular trichome. The gene underlying this phenotype is a member of the HD‐ZIP subfamily I, which regulates the development and specialized metabolism of type VI glandular trichomes.

Biregionally differentiated growth generates sharp apex and concave joints in leaves

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 123, Issue 1, July 2025.
SUMMARY The leaf apex, the distal end of the leaf blade, exhibits enormous variation in shapes across plant species. Among these diverse morphologies, the sharp apex, characterized by its pointed and elongated tip, is important for both species identification and environmental adaptation.

Rice ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTOR 101 increases leaf angle by upregulating BRASSINOSTEROID UPREGULATED 1

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 123, Issue 1, July 2025.
SUMMARY The leaf angle (LA) is a critical component of plant architecture that directly influences photosynthetic efficiency and grain yield. In the present study, we found that ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTOR 101 (OsERF101), an APETALA2/ethylene response factor, plays a role in LA formation.
