Controlling banana bunchy top disease in Benin: Crop protection strategies with socio‐economic perspectives

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Banana and plantain are vital for food security and income in West Africa, yet banana bunchy top virus (BBTV) threatens production. This study combined remote sensing, field surveys, modelling and socio‐economic analysis to assess BBTV spread and control strategies in Benin.

New host and geographic records of five pleosporalean hyphomycetes associated with Musa spp. (Banana)

open access: yes, 2021
A study was undertaken to collect and identify saprobic fungi associated with Musa spp. (banana) from Taiwan, China, and Thailand. Samples were collected during the dry season and their morpho–molecular relationships were investigated.

Sustainable treatment of banana leaves for phytosanitary applications: impact, spreading, and impregnation of mineral oil

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Mineral oil droplets spread anisotropically, penetrate banana leaf tissues, and diffuse into the palisade parenchyma, revealing a delayed, Fickian mechanism that supports improved phytosanitary spray strategies. Abstract BACKGROUND Efficient application of phytosanitary sprays is essential for sustainable control of foliar fungal diseases such as Black

Physical and metabolic alterations in "Prata Anã" banana induced by mechanical damage at room temperature Alterações físicas e metabólicas em banana 'Prata Anã' induzidas por dano mecânico mantidas sob temperatura ambiente

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2011
Bananas respond at the physical and physiological level to mechanical damage. Mechanical injuries cause alterations in color and flavor, tissue softening, faster ripening, increased weight loss, increased invasion of microorganisms, and higher enzyme ...

Investigating chromosomal structural variations in Musa acuminate using NGS approaches : [W077] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Structural heterozygosity is thought to be one of the main causes of sterility in banana (Musa spp.) hybrids. These structural variations impact chromosomal segregation and recombination, limiting crossing possibilities and complicating genetic analyses.

Endophytic bacterial diversity in banana 'Prata Anã' (Musa spp.) roots [PDF]

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2013
The genetic diversity of endophytic bacteria in banana 'Prata Anã' roots was characterized. Two hundred and one endophytic bacteria were isolated, 151 of which were classified as Gram-positive and 50 as Gram-negative. No hypersensitivity response was observed in any of the isolates.
