Patterning the Void: Combining L‐Systems with Archimedean Tessellations as a Perspective for Tissue Engineering Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel multi‐scale scaffold design using L‐fractals arranged in Archimedean tessellations for tissue regeneration. Despite similar porosity, tiles display vastly different tensile responses (1–100 MPa) and deformation modes. In vitro experiments with hMSCs show geometry‐dependent growth and activity. Over 55 000 tile combinations

Longitudinal RNA-Seq analysis of acute and chronic neurogenic skeletal muscle atrophy. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Skeletal muscle is a highly adaptable tissue capable of changes in size, contractility, and metabolism according to functional demands. Atrophy is a decline in mass and strength caused by pathologic loss of myofibrillar proteins, and can result from ...

Accumulation of muscle ankyrin repeat protein transcript reveals local activation of primary myotube endcompartments during muscle morphogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The characteristic shapes and positions of each individual body muscle are established during the process of muscle morphogenesis in response to patterning information from the surrounding mesenchyme. Throughout muscle morphogenesis, primary myotubes are

Myoblast fusion confusion: the resolution begins

open access: yesSkeletal Muscle, 2018
The fusion of muscle precursor cells is a required event for proper skeletal muscle development and regeneration. Numerous proteins have been implicated to function in myoblast fusion; however, the majority are expressed in diverse tissues and regulate ...

Substrate Stress Relaxation Regulates Cell‐Mediated Assembly of Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone‐based viscoelastic substrates with tunable stress relaxation reveal how matrix mechanics regulates cellular mechanosensing and cell‐mediated matrix remodelling in the stiff regime. High stress relaxation promotes assembly of fibronectin fibril‐like structures, increased nuclear localization of YAP and formation of β1 integrin‐enriched ...

Deep Proteomics of Mouse Skeletal Muscle Enables Quantitation of Protein Isoforms, Metabolic Pathways, and Transcription Factors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Skeletal muscle constitutes 40% of individual body mass and plays vital roles in locomotion and whole-body metabolism. Proteomics of skeletal muscle is challenging because of highly abundant contractile proteins that interfere with detection of ...

Level of muscle regeneration in limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2I relates to genotype and clinical severity

open access: yesSkeletal Muscle, 2011
Background The balance between muscle regeneration and ongoing degeneration is a relationship that greatly influences the progression of muscular dystrophy.

Adipocyte-Derived Exosomal MiR-27a Induces Insulin Resistance in Skeletal Muscle Through Repression of PPARγ

open access: yesTheranostics, 2018
The mechanism by which adipocyte-derived endocrine factors promote insulin resistance in skeletal muscle are not fully understood. MiR-27a is highly expressed in sera of obese individuals with prediabetes and T2DM, and mainly derived by adipose tissues ...
