Gesundheit & Bewegung

open access: yesDeutsche Zeitschrift für Sportmedizin, 2016
For elite athletes, recovery from exhausting exercise is important during training and competitions. The effects of protein supplements on exercise-induced muscle damage, muscle soreness and restoration of muscle function or performance during recovery ...

Exercise muscle damage: the role of ACTN3 gene polymorphism

open access: yesСпортивная медицина: наука и практика, 2020
Even the most experienced athletes are not safe from various types of muscle damage (cramp, contracture, sprain, tear and tear of the muscle). Nowadays, certain gene variations or polymorphisms associated with muscle damage caused by exercise are known ...

Cytokines in Muscle Damage

open access: yes, 2012
Multiple cellular and molecular processes are rapidly activated following skeletal muscle damage to restore normal muscle structure and function. These processes typically involve an inflammatory response and potentially the consequent occurrence of secondary damage before their resolution and the completion of muscle repair or regeneration.

Circulating levels of non-muscle-specific miRNAs in response to acute muscle damage in rat

open access: yesData in Brief, 2018
MicroRNA (miRNA) are found in numerous biofluids including blood and are considered a new class of biomarkers. In several animal models as well as in human diseases, they are interesting circulating markers of acute or chronic tissue injury. This article

Effect of resistance training with blood flow restriction on muscle damage markers in adults: A systematic review.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
BackgroundThe purpose of this review was to systematically analyze the evidence regarding the occurrence of muscle damage (changes in muscle damage markers) after resistance training with blood flow restriction sessions.Materials and methodsThis ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Skeletal Muscle Damage Produced by Electrically Evoked Muscle Contractions [PDF]

open access: yesExercise and Sport Sciences Reviews, 2020
Understanding the physiological/mechanical mechanisms leading to skeletal muscle damage remains one of the challenges in muscle physiology. This review presents the functional, structural, and cellular consequences of electrically evoked submaximal isometric contractions that can elicit severe and localized skeletal muscle damage. Hypotheses related to

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

The effect of taurine supplementation on markers of muscle damage and muscle pain in an athletic population: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials assessed using the grading of recommendations, assessment, development, and evaluation approach

open access: yesHeliyon
Background: Moderate to intense physical activity is vital for health but may lead to exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) and muscle pain. Taurine supplementation (TS) is used to aid post-exercise recovery.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
