Continuous Stiffness Graded Metal–Ceramic Femoral Stems: UMAT‐Based Design and Finite Element Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Functionally graded metal–ceramic femoral stems are engineered through continuous UMAT‐based stiffness tailoring, eliminating discrete material interfaces while enhancing biomechanical compatibility. Low‐index power‐law gradation optimizes load transfer, reduces stress shielding, and controls implant–bone micromotion, highlighting a materials‐design ...

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Contractile properties of mouse single muscle fibers, a comparison with amphibian muscle fibers [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2005
SUMMARY Single fibers, 25-40 μm wide and 0.5-0.7 mm long, were isolated from the flexor digitorum brevis muscle of the mouse. Force and movement were recorded(21-27°C) from the fiber as a whole and, in certain experiments, from a short marked segment that was held at constant length by feedback control.
