Mathematical modelling of the half-sarcomere from a human skeletal muscle [PDF]
The character of the functional output of a motor unit within skeletal muscle has been linked experimentally to the proteins found in the sarcomere, the smallest contractile unit of muscle fibre.

Architected Bio‐Based Iontronic Skin With Dual‐Mode Pressure and Strain Sensing
Bio‐based acrylates in combination with an ionic liquid create 3D‐printed ionogels with compositionally tuneable mechanics and ionic conductivity. Gyroid architectures amplify low‐pressure sensitivity while preserving robust strain sensing, enabling dual‐mode detection of pressure and deformation.

Biodegradable Conductors for Implantable and Wearable Transient Bioelectronics
Biodegradable conductors are essential building blocks for transient bioelectronics, enabling temporary sensing, stimulation, and energy transfer while eliminating the need for device retrieval. This review summarizes biodegradable metals, conducting polymers, ionic conductors, and conductive composites, highlighting degradation mechanisms, material ...

Advancing Human Skin Equivalents: The Crucial Role of Neurovascular Integration
This review discusses the importance of integrating vascular and peripheral nerve systems into human skin equivalents (HSEs) to better recapitulate native skin physiology. Recent advances in vascularized, innervated, and neurovascularized HSEs are highlighted, together with emerging bioengineering strategies, current challenges, and future ...

Key signalling factors and pathways in the molecular determination of skeletal muscle phenotype
The molecular basis and control of the biochemical and biophysical properties of skeletal muscle, regarded as muscle phenotype, are examined in terms of fibre number, fibre size and fibre types.

Polymer‐coated IONPs functionalized with IL‐4 display respective neuroactive and anti‐inflammatory actions on neural progenitor cells and macrophages/microglia in vitro. When examined chronically in a rat experimental model of spinal cord injury, rGO scaffolds carrying these nanosystems adequately integrate into the lesion, significantly reduce ...

Muscle fibre breakdown in venom‐induced muscle degeneration
AbstractWe studied the early stages of the degeneration of skeletal muscles using the venom of Notechis scutatus as the myotoxic agent. The venom was used at a dose equivalent to the LD50 in the mouse. There was no mortality amongst the rats. Electron microscopy was used to show the progressive hypercontraction of sarcomeres and the loss of alignment ...

Studies on the mechanosensory innervation of muscle using organotypic culture, reinnervation and immunohistochemistry [PDF]
This thesis studies sensory innervation in mammals using an organotypic co-culture of spinal cord-dorsal root ganglion and skeletal muscle of embryonic rat, the histological changes of reinnervated muscle spindles after nerve section and the localisation
