Topically Delivered Treg‐Attracting Microparticle‐Hydrogel Composites Recruit Regulatory T Cells and Limit Cardiac Injury After Severe Ischemia

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
CCL22‐releasing PLGA microparticles (MP) suspended in topically applied hydrogels (HEART) establish a sustained chemokine gradient at the injured myocardium. HEART recruits CCR4+ regulatory T cells, reduces infarct size and graft fibrosis, and improves cardiac function.

Hybrid Biofabrication of a Hierarchically Organized Periosteum‐Inspired In Vitro Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid biofabrication strategy integrates melt electrowriting with extrusion‐based 3D bioprinting to create a hierarchically organized periosteum‐inspired in vitro platform. Spatially defined osteogenic, fibrous, and endothelial cell‐containing compartments support long‐term culture, osteogenic maturation, and CD31+ endothelial cell organization ...

Magnetoactive Hydrogels to Probe Curvature‐Directed Endothelial Cell Mechanosensing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work establishes a platform to investigate local curvature as a regulator of endothelial mechanosensing independent of shear stress. Magnetoactive hydrogels enable on‐demand curvature of endothelial monolayers to reproduce tortuosity quantified by clinically established metrics.

Muscle fibre types and beef quality

open access: yes, 2017
The quality of bovine meat is related to the composition of the source muscles. Bovine skeletal muscle is mainly composed of three types of muscle fibres that are found in varying proportions in different muscles.

Fibre-specific mitochondrial protein abundance is linked to resting and post-training mitochondrial content in the muscle of men

open access: yesNature Communications
Analyses of mitochondrial adaptations in human skeletal muscle have mostly used whole-muscle samples, where results may be confounded by the presence of a mixture of type I and II muscle fibres.
