EXERCISE MYOPATHY: CHANGES IN MYOFIBRILS OF FAST-TWITCH MUSCLE FIBRES

open access: yesBiology of Sport, 2014
The purpose of the present study was to determine the relationships between the changes of myofibrils in fast-twitch oxidative-glycolytic (type IIA) fibres and fast-twitch glycolytic (type IIB) muscle fibres, protein synthesis and degradation rate in ...

Calcium and strontium contractile activation properties of single skinned skeletal muscle fibres from elderly women 66-90 years of age. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Muscle Res Cell Motil, 2022
The single freshly skinned muscle fibre technique was used to investigate Ca2+- and Sr2+-activation properties of skeletal muscle fibres from elderly women (66–90 years). Muscle biopsies were obtained from the vastus lateralis muscle.

MUSCLE FIBRES MODELLING

open access: yesProceedings of the International Conference on Computer Graphics Theory and Applications, 2012
This paper describes a method that represents a muscle by a realistic chaff of muscle fibres that are automatically generated in the volume defined by the surface mesh of the muscle which itself automatically wraps around bones as they move. Our C++ implementation can decompose the volume into muscle fibres, which is done by a slice-by-slice morphing ...

Increased oxidative metabolism and myoglobin expression in zebrafish muscle during chronic hypoxia

open access: yesBiology Open, 2014
Fish may be extremely hypoxia resistant. We investigated how muscle fibre size and oxidative capacity in zebrafish (Danio rerio) adapt during severe chronic hypoxia.

Mammalian Intrafusal Muscle Fibres [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1964
RECENT histological investigations of cat muscle spindles1–8 have established the presence of two types of muscle fibre, the large nuclear-bag fibres and the smaller and more numerous nuclear-chain fibres (Fig. 1A). Boyd3 maintains that each type of muscle fibre receives its own pattern of innervation, there being, in particular, a segregation in the ...

An understanding of muscle fibre images [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Images of muscle biopsies reveal a mosaic pattern of two (slow-twitch and fast-twitch) fibre-types. An analysis of such images can indicate some neuromuscular disorder. We briefly review some methods which analyse the arrangement of the fibres (e.g. clustering of fibre type) and the fibre sizes.

Comparison of two muscle fibre staining techniques and their relation to pork quality traits

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2020
This study compared two histochemical staining methods of muscle fibres and evaluated their relationship with the meat quality traits of two high-value porcine muscles.

Fuel selection, muscle fibre [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Nutrition Society, 1995
The fuel selection of muscle fibres at rest is dependent on substrate availability. Increased lipid availability results in an increase citrate concentration with inhibition of glycolysis. Fat utilization also increases the concentration ratio acetyl-CoA:CoASH, with inhibition of PDH transformation to the active form.

Muscle fibre types in the suprahyoid muscles of the rat [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, 2001
Five muscle fibre types (I, IIc, IIa, IIx and IIb) were found in the suprahyoid muscles (mylohyoid, geniohyoid, and the anterior and posterior bellies of the digastric) of the rat using immuno and enzyme histochemical techniques. More than 90% of fibres in the muscles examined were fast contracting fibres (types IIa, IIx and IIb).

Revertant fibres and dystrophin traces in Duchenne muscular dystrophy: Implication for clinical trials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is characterised by the absence of dystrophin in muscle biopsies, although residual dystrophin can be present, either as dystrophin-positive (revertant) fibres or traces.
