Single exponential decay waveform; a synergistic combination of electroporation and electrolysis (E2) for tissue ablation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BackgroundElectrolytic ablation and electroporation based ablation are minimally invasive, non-thermal surgical technologies that employ electrical currents and electric fields to ablate undesirable cells in a volume of tissue.

Donepezil: A cause of inadequate muscle relaxation and delayed neuromuscular recovery

open access: yesJournal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 2011
A 74-year-old female with diabetes mellitus type II and Alzheimer′s disease, taking donepezil for 4 months was operated for right modified radical mastectomy under general anesthesia. During the procedure a higher dose of non-depolarizing muscle relaxant

Contribution of potassium channels, beta2-adrenergic and histamine H1 receptors in the relaxant effect of baicalein on rat tracheal smooth muscle [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2019
Objective(s): Baicalein, a compound extracted from a variety of herbs, showed various pharmacological effects. This study evaluated the relaxant effects of baicalein and its underlying molecular mechanisms of action on rat’s isolated tracheal smooth ...

Interactive Modelling of Volumetric Musculoskeletal Anatomy [PDF]

open access: yesACM Trans. Graph., Vol. 40, No. 4, Article 122. Publication date: August 2021, 2021
We present a new approach for modelling musculoskeletal anatomy. Unlike previous methods, we do not model individual muscle shapes as geometric primitives (polygonal meshes, NURBS etc.). Instead, we adopt a volumetric segmentation approach where every point in our volume is assigned to a muscle, fat, or bone tissue.

Multi-Frequency Impedance Myography: The PhaseX Effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Muscle contraction is often detected via EMG in prosthetics. However, signal disturbances due to electrode motions can lead to misinterpretations. Therefore, alternative measurement approaches are desired to increase the reliability of the results. In this work, a novel approach based on impedance myography is proposed.

Investigating the Correlation between Force Output, Strains, and Pressure for Active Skeletal Muscle Contractions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Experimental observations suggest that the force output of the skeletal muscle tissue can be correlated to the intra-muscular pressure generated by the muscle belly. However, pressure often proves difficult to measure through in-vivo tests. Simulations on the other hand, offer a tool to model muscle contractions and analyze the relationship between ...
