Foci of segmentally contracted sarcomeres in trapezius muscle biopsy specimens in myalgic and nonmyalgic human subjects : preliminary results [PDF]
Objective The myofascial trigger point hypothesis postulates that there are small foci of contracted sarcomeres in resting skeletal muscle. Only one example, in canine muscle, has been published previously.

The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...

Molecular genetic analysis for malignant hyperthermia : a thesis presented to Massey University in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Biochemistry [PDF]
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a rare pharmacogenetic disorder in humans caused by inhalational general anaesthetics and depolarising muscle relaxants. An MH reaction shows abnormal calcium homeostasis in skeletal muscle leading to a hypermetabolic state

Joule‐assisted nanotherapeutic urethral stent harnesses a smart, biodegradable magnesium stent to orchestrate spatiotemporal theragenerative therapy for urethral strictures. Magnetically induced Joule heating enables on‐demand drug release and bacterial ablation, while simultaneously guiding urothelial regeneration.

Metabolism of afloqualone, a new centrally acting muscle relaxant, in the rat.
The metabolism of afloqualone (6-amino-2-fluoromethyl-3-(o-tolyl)-4 (3H)-quinazolinone, AFQ) was studied in rats. AFQ was extensively metabolized by rats after oral administration of 3H-AFQ. Thirteen unconjugated and three conjugated metabolites were isolated from the 24-h urine.

Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Does cost sharing really reduce inappropriate prescriptions? [PDF]
This paper explores different empirical strategies to examine the effect of cost sharing for prescription drugs in some dimensions of medication-related quality, namely the probability of inappropriate prescription drug use among United States seniors ...
