SARCOMERE SIZE IN DEVELOPING MUSCLES OF A TARSONEMID MITE [PDF]
The embryo of a tarsonemid mite was found to be suitable for in vivo observations of muscle development by polarization microscopy. The four dorsal muscles of the metapodosoma each contain three sarcomeres, the anterior two of which can be seen clearly. These sarcomeres can be identified and followed during much of their development.

Why do Large Animals Never Actuate Their Jumps with Latch-Mediated Springs? Because They can Jump Higher Without Them. [PDF]
As animals get smaller, their ability to generate usable work from muscle contraction is decreased by the muscle's force-velocity properties, thereby reducing their effective jump height.

Expression and purification of functional human glycogen synthase-1:glycogenin-1 complex in insect cells [PDF]
We report the successful expression and purification of functional human muscle glycogen synthase (GYS1) in complex with human glycogenin-1 (GN1). Stoichiometric GYS1:GN1 complex was produced by co-expression of GYS1 and GN1 using a bicistronic pFastBac™-

Approximate Muscle Guided Beam Search for Three-Index Assignment Problem [PDF]
As a well-known NP-hard problem, the Three-Index Assignment Problem (AP3) has attracted lots of research efforts for developing heuristics. However, existing heuristics either obtain less competitive solutions or consume too much time. In this paper, a new heuristic named Approximate Muscle guided Beam Search (AMBS) is developed to achieve a good trade-

Handgrip strength dominance is associated with difference in forearm muscle size
[Purpose] It is unknown whether handgrip strength dominance is related to the size of the forearm flexor muscles. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between side-by-side differences in handgrip strength and forearm ...

Diversity in the organization of elastin bundles and intramembranous muscles in bat wings [PDF]
Unlike birds and insects, bats fly with wings composed of thin skin that envelops the bones of the forelimb and spans the area between the limbs, digits, and sometimes the tail.

Reliability of Longus Colli Muscle Size Measurement Using Ultrasonography
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The deep cervical flexor muscles have a major role to play in neck stabilization and evidence suggests that these muscles especially longus colli muscle (LCM) becomes dysfunctional in the presence of neck pain.

Musculoskeletal modelling of an ostrich (Struthio camelus) pelvic limb: influence of limb orientation on muscular capacity during locomotion [PDF]
We developed a three-dimensional, biomechanical computer model of the 36 major pelvic limb muscle groups in an ostrich (Struthio camelus) to investigate muscle function in this, the largest of extant birds and model organism for many studies of locomotor
