A 3D dynamical biomechanical tongue model to study speech motor control [PDF]

open access: yesResearch Developments in Biomechanics 1 (2003) 49-64, 2006
A 3D biomechanical dynamical model of human tongue is presented, that is elaborated in the aim to test hypotheses about speech motor control. Tissue elastic properties are accounted for in Finite Element Modeling (FEM). The FEM mesh was designed in order to facilitate the implementation of muscle arrangement within the tongue.

NeckCheck: Predicting Neck Strain using Head Tracker Sensors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Tech neck, a growing musculoskeletal concern caused by prolonged poor posture during device use, has significant health implications. This study investigates the relationship between head posture and muscular activity in the upper trapezius muscle to predict muscle strain by leveraging data from EMG sensors and head trackers.

A Wearable Strain-Sensor-Based Shoulder Patch for Fatigue Detection in Bicep Curls [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
A common challenge in home-based rehabilitation is muscle compensation induced by pain or fatigue, where patients with weakened primary muscles recruit secondary muscle groups to assist their movement, causing issues such as delayed rehabilitation progress or risk of further injury.

Improving Swimming Performance in Soft Robotic Fish with Distributed Muscles and Embedded Kinematic Sensing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Bio-inspired underwater vehicles could yield improved efficiency, maneuverability, and environmental compatibility over conventional propeller-driven underwater vehicles. However, to realize the swimming performance of biology, there is a need for soft robotic swimmers with both distributed muscles and kinematic feedback. This study presents the design
