Point of care ultrasonography of quadriceps femoris muscle thickness for assessing nutritional status in critically ill children

open access: yesScientific Reports
Muscle wasting occurs early during critical illness. It is associated with poor PICU outcomes. Ultrasonography can detect muscle thickness in critically ill children.

Neurovascular Contacts in the Pathophysiology of Neuralgic Amyotrophy: An Observational Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neuralgic amyotrophy (NA) is a prevalent, monophasic, multifocal immune‐mediated neuropathy. A distinctive characteristic of the disease is the occurrence of nerve or fascicle constrictions and torsions (NA‐associated focal nerve lesions, NAFL). The pathophysiology underlying this phenomenon remains to be fully elucidated.

Sonographic evaluation of masseter muscle thickness in bruxist and non-bruxist subjects

open access: yesJournal of Baghdad College of Dentistry, 2014
Background: Masseter muscle is a jaw closing muscle of the mandible involved in Para functional habits; which include lip and cheek chewing, fingernail biting, and teeth clenching or bruxism which can be classified as awake or sleep bruxism.

Association Between Motor Pathway Damage and Motor Deficit in Upper and Lower Limb in People With MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Corticospinal tract damage is common in people with MS, but the degree of clinical symptoms varies. We hypothesize that corticospinal tract lesions are more extensive and severe in people with MS with motor impairments in both upper and lower limbs.

Relationships between lower-body muscle structure and, lower-body strength, explosiveness and eccentric leg stiffness in adolescent athletes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The purpose of the present study was to determine whether any relationships were present between lower-body muscle structure and, lower-body strength, variables measured during a counter-movement jump (CMJ) and squat jump (SJ), and eccentric leg ...

Cuticle and muscle variation underlying phenotypic plasticity in barnacle feeding leg and penis form [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Many aspects of barnacle body form are known to be developmentally plastic. Perhaps the most striking examples of such plasticity occur in their feeding legs and unusually long penises, the sizes and shapes of which can change dramatically and adaptively

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

PEDOT‐Based Eutectogel Electrode Arrays for Enhanced High‐Resolution Electrogastrography: Fabrication, Stability, and Wearable Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we present a high‐density PEDOT eutectogel electrode array for enhanced body surface gastric mapping. Silver electrodes are blade‐coated onto flexible substrates, followed by electrogelation of PEDOT:PSS and the deposition of a PEDOT:LS eutectogel.
