Quantification of hand muscle volume and composition in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2020
Background Psoriasis (Pso), psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are inflammatory diseases. PsA and RA are characterized by bone and muscle loss.

Evaluation of muscle volume and degeneration after total hip arthroplasty: a comparison of the posterolateral approach and the anterolateral supine approach

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2021
Background Muscle strength around the hip after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is crucial for preventing dislocation and limping. This study aimed to assess and compare muscle volume and degeneration after THA using the posterolateral (PL) and ...

A Low Psoas Muscle Index Was Associated With a Poorer Overall Survival in Patients Who Underwent Percutaneous Nephrostomy

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
In patients with malignant ureteral obstruction undergoing percutaneous nephrostomy, sarcopenia defined by a low psoas muscle index was independently associated with poor overall survival on multivariate Cox regression analysis, suggesting that preoperative assessment of psoas muscle index may aid prognostic stratification in this population.

Visceral and subcutaneous fat, muscle mass, and liver volume as noninvasive predictors of the progress of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2023
Background The term “non-alcoholic fatty liver disease” (NAFLD) refers to a range of disorders caused by lipid accumulation in the liver. High abdominal fat levels can cause adipocytes to become more lipolytic, releasing free fatty acids into the portal ...

Choroid Plexus Enlargement and USPIO‐Based Inflammatory Feature in Cerebral Small Vessel Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The choroid plexus (CP) is a key component of the blood–cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCSFB), but its mechanism of action in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) remains unclear. This study investigated CP volume (CPV) alterations and their association with conventional imaging markers in CSVD and explored the underlying role of ...

Added Prognostic Value of EEG Reactivity in Comatose Patients Following Cardiac Arrest

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the added prognostic value of EEG reactivity for favorable outcome compared with background analysis during and after targeted temperature management (TTM). Methods Prospective observational cohort study of comatose post–cardiac arrest patients admitted to a single academic center between 2017 and 2022, all undergoing ...

Early Clinical, Imaging, and Pathological Characteristics of SRPK3/TTN‐Digenic Myopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy was recently established as a skeletal muscle myopathy caused by digenic inheritance. This study characterizes the early clinical presentation of SRPK3/TTN‐digenic myopathy in one previously reported and seven newly identified pediatric patients.

Association Between Motor Pathway Damage and Motor Deficit in Upper and Lower Limb in People With MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Corticospinal tract damage is common in people with MS, but the degree of clinical symptoms varies. We hypothesize that corticospinal tract lesions are more extensive and severe in people with MS with motor impairments in both upper and lower limbs.

Evaluation of Digital Technologies for Home‐Based Assessment in People With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Digital technologies hold promise for transforming healthcare by enhancing personalized treatments and offer valuable opportunities to improve patient care. Here, we evaluated several novel, self‐administered, home‐based, digital endpoints for their association with corresponding conventional standard clinical measures (primary) in ...
