Resistance or power training to enhance lower limb muscle morphology in ambulatory children with cerebral palsy? A focused systematic review with meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics
BackgroundEarly exercise interventions targeting lower limb muscles are critical for enhancing motor development in children with cerebral palsy (CP).

Application of bioelectrical impedance to sports science

open access: yesJournal of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine, 2012
Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) involves passing a weak, high-frequency current through the body in order to measure variables such as tissue volume, or the volume of blood, on the basis of electrical resistance.

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

Structural and biochemical insights into the thermostable esterase Ta0887 from Thermoplasma acidophilum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

Identification and characterization of a gene conferring stress resistance in Escherichia coli and cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Functional screening identified PcSyn14890, a cyanobacteria‐specific protein that enhances growth and stress resistance in E. coli and Synechocystis PCC6803. Although we expected it to function as a molecular chaperone, it was unable to protect against thermal aggregation of GAPDH.

Protocol for the “stand the future” trial: robotic exoskeleton gait training for non-ambulatory children with spastic cerebral palsy

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
PurposeChildren with spastic cerebral palsy (CP) classified as Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) level IV face profound mobility limitations and are often excluded from intensive gait rehabilitation programs due to the severity of their ...

Real-time ultrasound to predict rabbit carcass composition and volume of longissimus dorsi muscle

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2012
Real-time ultrasonography (RTU) was used to measure the longissimus dorsi muscle (LM) volume in vivo and to predict the carcass composition of rabbits. For this, 63 New Zealand White × Californian rabbits with 2093±63 g live weight were used.

TRPML1 agonist ML‐SA5 attenuates pulmonary fibroblast activation by suppressing mTOR and restoring autophagic flux

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TGF‐β1 stimulation downregulates lysosomal channel TRPML1 in pulmonary fibroblasts. The TRPML1 agonist ML‐SA5 suppressed fibroblast‐to‐myofibroblast activation and collagen production. Mechanistically, ML‐SA5 inhibited mTOR phosphorylation, restored autophagic flux, and its effects were enhanced by rapamycin (mTOR inhibitor) and reversed by MHY1485 ...

Comparison of the relative muscle volume of triceps surae among sprinters, runners, and untrained participants

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2020
Muscle hypertrophy is considered more prominent in fast‐twitch than in slow‐twitch muscles. This leads to the hypothesis that the relative muscle volume of the medial gastrocnemius (MG) and lateral gastrocnemius (LG) becomes larger than that of the ...
